Stand Alone Computer and Fuel injector conversion

One of my old Mopar buddies was suggesting to me that I can convert my ole 73 Charger (318 2 bbl) to run a fuel injector system, to run off a stand alone computer system.

The reason that it came up is because I have seen so many nice cars in junk yards as victims of carburetor fires. Im thinking of giving the Charger to one of my grown daughters to drive, but they may not understand carbs and what to do if (when) they have a little fire.  :scratchchin:

He said that the injector system would pretty much eliminate fuel fires, and that it is safer and more reliable. Makes sense.

But...

How much of an excercize in Frankensteining an old Charger would this be? And how expensive? Or, has anybody hear ever done or seen it done on an older car?

Dude, welcome to the future.  Plenty of easy EFI conversions on the market. I converted last year and will never buy another carburetor again.

Check this thread for info on FiTech EFI.

Yep, EFI conversions have gone mainstream.

In general, the biggest hoop you have to jump through with EFI conversions is the gas tank/fuel line.  Compared to carbs, EFI systems require HIGH fuel pressure.  It needs a powerful electric pump and a return line back to the tank, so the fuel can be circulating in a constant hi-pressure loop.

There are lots of ways to skin this cat.  Different brands and different details for the setups.
