Figured we had to act. Still some regret over passin up a true survivor car/matching original everything in 383, but this had what we set out for originally in the 440 and the '74 block has its advantages. Rebuilt at a noted performance shop on a dyno and for our driving needs (cruising and highway). Wanna put a 4-speed in it, dunno whether we'll try to up the performance with a bigger carb/ported aluminum heads/roller cam/fatter headers. Focus will be on new paint (this is 25-year-old paint) and the underside. The tone of B5 Blue I'm lookin for is what I saw on a Quebec car w/ slightly darker tone included at the end. Sorry for pic format--all I could do to resize for upload and crop the screenshots.

Thanks. Here's the rest...

And some of the work he did and had done. Comes with a binder of receipts/work done, etc. About 1,200 miles on it. Super sound, original quarters, etc., super straight seams, gonna need a trunk floor. Wanna remove original undercoating and redo. Last pic is the color I'm shooting for.

Thanks. I know it isn't HP, but it's still producing over '69 factory specs(?) by 50+ hp with the compression the shop managed to get in the rebuild (around 9.5 he said, as against the standard 8.2--eager to get into the paperwork), or +150+ hp over the stock '74. Point being, we'll have a nice driver for the next year while I work on everything else, the (relative) advantages of the stronger block, and it'll help break Kate in gently (like the thutty-thutty did for her 45-70). And THEN, we'll coax at least another 100 hp. That's plenty for our needs. Figure about 530 hp will be ideal for our highway cruising. Already got over any thoughts of 600 hp. She'll pull about 5,500rpm comfortably now and 6k will feel just right in a year. Oh, and the 4-speed of course.

So not sure what we are or what she is, sumthin of a kit car I guess, and I'm a little bit of a poser? That's ok by me as long as I can work on it. One thing tho...on the way to see her we got behind a vanity plate that said "ASSIS."

"Hey, we need a plate." Her family nickname is "TWINK," short for "Twinkie." To which she said, "And if that's taken, you can use the past tense."  :brickwall:

Yeah, she has me scratchin my head sometimes, but it works out ok cuz right below the trunk will be a sign that says "TWUNK."  :2thumbs: Sounds about right for sellin out like I did on a chance at a true survivor. I'll live with it by makin it up. We do have torque.

Homerr

Very nice looking Charger.  Get to know the car before you tear in to it.  Watch out for that vanity plate, you might get some odd offers!

Laowho

Oh great. Least it says "no kink." I had NO idea.

TWUNK it is

Will definitely get to know it first, but I'm kinda quick that way. It already told me it wants 500 hp. Don't ask me how these things happen, they just do.

:2thumbs: Nice looking car!  Just use photobucket for pics, it's much easier for larger pics.

Laowho

Thanks. Will do. Scouring the site for a while to get a feel for who carries what. Just doin some homework so I can interpret from the paperwork where the shop recovered the 74's lost power and then added some beside. He told me I could call em but I wanna figure it out first if I can. Sure my preconceptions and enthusiasm can use some adjustment, and we'll be driving it at least a year before I consider performance upgrades, but all this reading has got me hyp no tized.

The car looks like a 70 from the rear but it has a 69 Charger 500 type front end?

first pic looks like a 70   :scratchchin:

The 70 has a white vinyl top as well. The 69 500 has a painted top. Someone messed up with the pictures.

I think he gave an example of the B5 shade he likes

Laowho

Yeah. The paint on this is weird. Just an enamel? w/o any clear but they made it match pretty darned close 25 years ago. But that last pic of the 69 is what I'll be goin after and seems a lot more like the sample I saw over at the 70 Registry for 2019 Bright Blue Poly

http://1970chargerregistry.com/Misc/colors2.html

Had I ordered one new it woulda gotten the black vinyl but for Kate I think it's just swell. And the top is immaculate, as is the interior vinyl. Not a whole lot to do there. Dash was reconditioned too and everything works. I know I got in over my head early and fast but the car is just really sound.

If you want a slightly darker B5 blue go with a 1971 b5 blue. 71 is darker then 70. LEON.

Laowho

Thanks LEON,

Went thru the 70 Registry and found exactly what I mean. Wattya call it? "Creamier," "darker," "purpler?" May be custom but it's what I'm after. Should help set off the thunder blue interior a bit too and blend nicely w/ the black dash. (As compared w/ ours below)

Thanks a lot. Hope we can get the paint nailed down. Aren't they pretty good at matching from photos? Any reason it wouldn't work from an internet pic? A quick search pulled up Sherwin Williams, but the owner said he did it with DuPont.

hemi-hampton

Never heard of anybody being good at matching paint from a photo, a photo pic could have anything on it. If you had the a actual painted part it could be scanned for a close or similar formula. LEON.

In my research I just came across what I'll be using for replacement undercoating once I get all the old off. It's called Fluid Film (lanolin) and wants to be put on w/ an airless sprayer. Cuts through any rust and reaches good metal to protect that while helping to loosen the stuff you wanna take off. Good for boots too. Makes sense. Five gallons about $150.  :coolgleamA:
