I've got a 68 with a 440, has a purple cam, headers, MSD, nothing too crazy. My clutch is done, it was a hayes. I've talked to a few guys and the choices have pretty much come down to spec or centerforce. I'm looking for opinions, what do you guys recommend?

Thanks,
Curt

I ran an 11" centerforce dual friction behind my 383 for years on sticky tires.

Most of the reputable places I've talked to in my area recommend Centerforce. Maybe I should just trust them but, I've got a friend at work that has had some pretty hot cars (around 650 HP) and he's had really good results with Spec clutches, that's why I'm doubting the places I've talked to. I'd really like to hear more opinions as to your experiences. Thanks  hunterjoe for your feedback.

Ive never run the spec, but i have broke 4 rears with my centerforce and it never failed.

I ONLY use McLeod & I stay away drom all diaphragm type clutches the pedal systems in Mopars were never designed for diaphragm , the best I have used is the Borg & Beck Long type only made by McLeod . The DIaphragm type can overcenter causing the pedal to stay on the floor at High RPM if you install one of these make sure you also install a rev limiter !
I have had Centerforce last as long as a weekend , installed new on fri & replaced on Monday , Junk  :RantExplode:

I've used McLeods, Hayes and Ram B&B clutch/pressure plate set ups.  Every one I know has migrated away from B&B units, and the Centerforce are the units of choice.  I don't know anyone that has tried Spec.  Without a doubt, my next set-up will be a Centerforce diaphragm unit.  You will need to remove the over-center spring.

I have McLeod factory style Borg and Beck clutches in 2 of my Mopars and a factory style Ram in the Mach 1. They all work just fine (none of mine are overbuilt race cars nor do I take them to the track). I have a Centerforce on the shelf for a 383/23 spline build but it's the regular model not one of the upper end. Definitely don't forget to remove the overcenter spring if you go with a diaphragm style clutch.

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

Every stick car should have a rev limiter.... even the best will miss a gear now and then.
