Red Spark Plugs?

Background:  A couple weeks ago the engine began running terrible, so I threw the kitchen sink at the ignition components and tuned the carb a bit.  She's running better now than ever.   Even the off idle hesitation is gone.      :yesnod:    Not exactly sure what did the trick.    :scratchchin:

Okay...so now it smells really rich.  Not toooo bad, but definitely more raw fuel smell in the air and cabin than before I messed with everything.  But it is running grand.

So, last night I pull a couple plugs to see what's what.   Nice rusty red color.....kind of shocking.   :o    But they don't smell like fuel and are dry.

After a little interneting, it seems that red plugs can happen due to additives in fuel, and are not that uncommon.  In fact some of the plug reading charts show optimum plugs not that far off from the way mine look....maybe not quite as red.

I am adding the Amsoil octane boost, which I think is mostly kerosene, and is reddish in color.

What do you think?   All good?

Should be fine , maybe a little rich
AN O2 gauge is awesome for tuning

Probably not the way it should be done.  I just pulled 'em and that's how they look now.   They were a clean grayish tan last time I checked them, probably last summer.  That was before I started using the boost and played with the carb.

I suppose (short of using an o2 sensor) the next step would be to clean or replace the plugs and start fresh to see how they look after a period of time.

If it was idling and then you shut it off and pulled the plugs, you are reading the idle mkxture only. Clean the plugs, turn your idle mixture screws 1/8 turn in and rerun the test.
