Preventing fender tag theft

After a friend had his fender tag stolen at a car show I have always worried about someone walking away with mine so I filled the Philips head screws with clear gel superglue! That will make it a lot harder for them to walk away with it and you cant tell its there.

JB Weld on the screw threads from the bottom will make the screws more difficult to remove also.

Get some Trident tamper-resistant security screws

I took mine off and put it away.  I have a factory disk brake car and that is the only thing that proves it

Just kidding, of course. :icon_smile_big: You could always have a duplicate tag made & keep your original at home.

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

I've left mine at home in the safe for years now. Plus I get the enjoyment of disappointing numbers hunters that walk right up to my car and go straight for the numbers like they're out to bust me for something. I've even gone to leaving the vin covered with electrical tape or other stuff sometimes just for my own amusement.

Theres a certain group of Mopar guys that get off on numbers who I'll never understand.

yea i dont like the facebook guys who are always hounding people for fender tag pics everytime a car pops up. i have asked for a pic a few times but it was only because i thought the guy was full of shit claiming it was a hemi car, and sure enough they wont post it, even with vin covered

No, it wont at all. Sheetmetal screws are self tapping.

The trident screws are a great idea. Looks possible and adds security.

I like the idea catching crooks.  --- Maybe a trigger can be rigged to take a picture at the same time as a taser hit does it's thing :o

Replace the self tapping screw with a machine screw and install a self locking nut on the back side.

People will steal just for the sake of stealing.

The machine screws are a good idea. I would use a flat washer and regular nut on the back side with some strong thread lock. That way the screw will just spin from the top. One would have to access the nut from the back to break the thread lock.


A12 Superbee

I made a copy of my original using fiberglass body filler. Make a small mold using plaster of the genuine, remove and fill using basically any kind of filler you like. Mine came out amazing! There are pics on the A12 forum somewhere but I can't find them.

That's what I ended up doing on one car. I used aluminum rivets and had to file them a little narrower so they didn't ruin the original screw holes.

   Who makes a repro tag and what does it cost ? Mine is so fragile with rust I have it locked away. I have one from a car I scraped years ago I should paint and put on for amusement.

Park your Charger at the show, pop the hood, leave the area within close range, double back and approach your own car as if you were a spectator. And then just watch the idiot's looks on their faces upon reading your gag tag.

I would even secure the gimmick tag as some one would probably would want to steal that one as well.

I love to check out fender tags, look for oddities or just how a car has changed from day I till now.
