Just sayin hey and that we'll be lurkin around. Goin to a Mopar show in 2 days. The 68 R/T is the only car I've ever wanted. Made our 1st call on one this morning but doubt we'll get it. The 440s and 4-speeds seem scarce and outa reach but have been readin all the things we can do to a BB so figure we'll do that and swap-in a manual. Just startin out, not a mechanic, but we'll find a project and take it from there. Gonna read up here and will be poppin in w/ questions now and again.

Science is just observation and hypothesis.  Policy stands in the way.........

Or maybe it protects us.

I suppose it depends on the specific case.....

Thanks everyone. Lookin at 300+ pages of pics represented here. Great site and glad I found ya. In fact, been chasin down various ads from lotsa sites--some maybe questionable--and one led back to here where a guy listed 20 Mopars he had, but not a single response. Neither did he have any other posts here. His story doesn't seem to check out and he's even from my old high school haunts. Other strange listings duplicated online (the car can't be in both CA and FL), etc. Gonna have limited access to a lift so still tryin to know what I can do and what I can't. No rush. It's the journey, yeah? Oh, and Kate's insisting on AC. Otherwise our options are open to any 68-70 and 383 or 440. Figure we'll add the manual tranny. Any must-have reading or resource please recommend. Already downloaded the manuals from MyMopar.com.

Well good to know, considerin I left a message there an hour ago. Was wonderin why one went from $25k to $15k in so short a time. This is uncanny, and most appreciated. We're 5th in line for the first one we called about (private owner) but don't expect to get it. Thanks very much for the heads up.

Reading the thread you pointed me to. Thanks a lot. We'll take our time, no rush, start attending Mopar events, etc. Really appreciated.

Welcome aboard.  I'm in a similar situation, searching for my first one though I've owed Mopars since I was 15.  I've got a lead on a "mountain man" with a bunch and trying to get up there.

The journey there is half the fun, lol.

We are goin. Need to hunt down what details I can find for Kate (she's very organized) and have only seen info at a Facebook page. But yeah, eager to start spending some quality time around them. I'll be the guy w/ the Kramer hair (in gray), or the Christopher Lloyd/Doc hair from Back to the Future.

Well here's to both of us. Got lots of homework to do before we start flyin all over the country. With the kids, we only ever have our road trips for "us" time, but this one will be extra special--fly there, drive back.

Welcome Laowho  :2thumbs: :2thumbs: :2thumbs:

Have fun at Englishtown!!! I wish I could go. Gather a lot of info. Ask questions if possible. Be patient. Oh and 68s are the best.

Yeah well, I woulda sworn that only a 68 triple black would do me, but I had a religious experience with a B5 Blue last night that made me lucid dream. Also like the 70 tail lights almost as much. Still wondering about the chopped rear. Go figure. The right one will find us, tomorrow, next year...doesn't matter. Think we're gonna need a bigger garage tho.

I always recommend "Project Charger" by Larry Lyles as a starting overview if you're looking at doing a restoration.  Prices look like they went full retard recently, maybe you can find a copy elsewhere cheaper.

Thanks Homerr! Exactly what we're lookin for. They have a $13 Kindle version so all good, but yeah, I'm seein retard pricing everywhere 2d Gen-related. BUT, feel like I'm developing a nose for the desired soundness/wholeness presence, and mostly from the private party sellers.

Ok Homerr...just downloaded and am reading now. Just what the doctor ordered. Should help slow me down a bit.

cbrestorations

hello, welcome to the board. hope you find your dream car

Homerr

Near the back of the book is a list of the hours he puts in on the car.  Remember that those are for an experienced restoration and auto body guy.  We might all pull an engine in a similar amount of time, but he probably does the bodywork 20x faster (and better) than I could do it.

Thanks for that info Just69, and for the welcome 69rtse--my wife actually came home with that printed out. Looks to be a lot bigger than I thought. Glad we didn't miss it. Goin Saturday about 10. It's half an hour from us.

And about the book and Mr. Lyles, what I like is in his intro:

"Like many people you find at the local car shows who restore old cars, I returned the Charger to its former glory simply because I could personally relate to the car, not because the VIN tag identified it as something rare or something special. Most of those vehicles have already found residence in climate-controlled museums whose access is granted to only a chosen few. This car doesn't have many of the desirable perks associated with owning a classic Mopar muscle car. There is no Six-Pack under the hood and no four on the floor. I chose to restore this car for one reason: It has my name on the title and it reminds me of days gone past."

We're callin on a car that is pretty simple and straightforward, basically a one-owner with low original miles, matching numbers and all stock. Vin audit checks out. If it all works out we'll start there and see where she goes. Figure it's the best start we can give ourselves.
