Hey Guys,

I'm new to the site so firstly howdy and im loving all the information on here. I have a question about my heater core.... when I bought my car the core had been bypassed  and hasn't been connected in the 3 years ive owned the car. ive decided to finally replace/repair the core but I have no idea where to start? I don't even know if the original core is still ok and its simply a case of connecting it up again (which will save me a ton of money than buying a new setup). Does anyone have any tips or guidelines on how I should first tackle this problem? how do I firstly get to the heater to check it is ok and when I do is there a standard check or clean you can do to confirm its in working order? will I need to pull my dash out as my car is complete and im kind of dreading the thought of pulling her apart :(

Any help would be greatly apprecaited

You don't have to pull the dash to get the heater core out. You do have to remove the heater/ac box assembly. I would get a FSM if you don't have one to show how to pull one. The non a/c ones are easy, I've never pulled an a/c one. This link might be of help to you. http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,87035.0.html

Is it hooked up as far as controls from the dash?

You do not have to pull your dash to fix it if necessary.

It is a major PITA though.

If everything were hooked up except the hoses, I would hook up the hoses and you'll know soon enough if you need to go further.   :Twocents:

In an a/c car you don't have to pull the heater box out of the car to replace the heater core. I did one for a friend of mine in his 69 charger and it was a job for sure but not impossible. Please get you a FSM (factory service manual) since without the one he had I would have had a really rough time but with the manual to go by it went really good.

My charger is just a heater car and the entire heater box had to be removed from the car to replace mine but a factory a/c car can be done just working under the dash with it.

Jump in there and get it swapped out, you can do it!!! :yesnod:
