He hit the banked part of the track.  That's what flipped him.

THREE, (count 'em),  topics about this the top of the forum today.    You can't go anywhere without someone going,  "Yah, did 'ya see that Jay flipped....."

Oddly enough not many have pointed out the obvious error in the headlines either since he was the passenger.

I don't think there was an error as much as there was an intended play on words.  Similar to someone saying that a person "flips" over an Olympic Gymnastic event.

Leno is very lucky he got his arm back inside, WOW

I was thinking that too.

Sometimes I think they should incorporate one of those elastic elbow strap thingys into a standard 5pt harness.   Perhaps not both arms but at least for the outer side arm.  It might always take a bit of adjusting every time the person put the harness on, but it could be made to come undone with the same motion that unlatches the rest of the harness.

Silly me.  And to think I thought a "pun" was a play on words!  Kinda like "historical history" or even better an all original, authentic, pristine, OE correct 4 Door........

lol.....

Being followed everywhere I go has just reminded me that I need to get a hold of Big Daddy Jay.  Haven't talked with him in a while and I bet he would love to cover some of the unique and interesting things we have been doing to commemorate the History of Chrysler.  I bet he would "flip" over doing a segment of our latest 4 Door project.

Cncguy

80 years old might be pushing it for stunt driving. Wonder if this gets recorded by CarFax?

Mike DC

I think he's still got the skills, he just ran out of flat surface.  It could have happened to lots of guys.

When it comes to safety I would bet on an older guy's experience over a younger guy's reflexes any day.  (I say this and I'm not very old.)  Reflexes do more to help you take successful risks.  Experience helps you avoid trouble in the first place, and then react in the correct ways when trouble finds you.

The argument could be made that he should have known better than to get the car up without adequate runoff.  But that probably has more to do with familiarity than age.  Keep doing anything risky enough times and pretty soon you start getting more lax about it.

He might also have been feeling a bit of pressure to get the car running in that spot just for the TV Leno thing.

Good point!  Another secondary (unplanned) outcome to consider is that having the car flip has gotten him more coverage than if the stunt would have come off unhitched.  Isn't it ironic how things that are sometimes considered negative, actually provide the best wide spread publicity!?

Probably, in less than six months this unfortunate wreck will forgotten....but that typically happens in these publicized situations....

ws23rt

Their are different values of "publicity"  --- Jay Leno has enjoyed plenty of it and is known for his making his way--such as it is.

He went for a ride and I'm sure that for the -car guy that he is- it was another adventure---- as opposed to an addition to his "public" life.

Wow!  The cockroaches are all migrating elsewhere now!  Did you contact the other cretins like tufacat to tell them to come follow me and start posting here?  Amazing that you guys can't stand me, want to be rid of me but continue to follow and obsess over my every move.  You guys just happen to coincidentally find every site that I post on and start with your fishing and probing to start trouble.  Here's what you should do!  Why don't you guys post pictures of your cars?  I'm sure we could all use a good laugh at this point in the thread!
