Ok. My bud is contemplating selling one of his Chargers. I gave him my opinion on values in current shape. First is his 66 Charger. It is a  nice cruiser that he has enjoyed for 7 years. Originally a white 383. Now a red 75 440. Nice paint and interior. No current problems.
The second is a 68 R/T 4 speed car. Red with black interior, black top. It has fender tag, build sheet, matching Dana and tranny and dated 440 block. It is a complete car but it needs restoration. It is apart.  The quarters and trunk floor were replaced with original stuff from a parts car. It needs some patches in the floor. All the frame rails are excellent. It was a Texas car he has perfect fenders, grill etc.
so give me a value based upon your views of the market at present.

I have no idea on 66 pricing, but a 68 will always be worth more than a 66. That being said, some pictures would be helpful to see what said 68 really looks like. If it's completely disassembled and the quarters and trunk floor were replaced from a donor car, it could be a nice project with the worst work being done, or it could be a complete mess.

Homerr

Difficult without pics.

66: $8-15k
68: $12-20k

The 68 is probably more difficult to value because 'complete' can mean many things:

all major and minor parts there, or just major stuff?
fasteners bagged & tagged, or is just a box of bolts/screws and hope everything is there?
things like door panels just need to be cleaned, or did someone diamond-tuck the interior - but it is 'complete'?

Was the starting point more like this:

The 68 is complete and bagged and tagged as you called it. Everything is there. It was a running driving car when he stripped it for the quarter/trunk install. No pictures, as I don't have his permission. He has collected some new parts and bought some better parts so I would say it is very complete. He has exhaust manifolds, buckets seats, radiator, and everything else that you need. It has the original 3.54 Dana and matching 4 speed that worked when he bought the car.

I payed 10k for my '68 r/t 4 speed with numbers matching trans and Dana! But mine needs a complete interior, floors from firewall, rear frame rails, trans cross member etc.Spent 3,5k just on AMD parts with a huge discount from a dealer! However mine wasn't apart in pieces so i saw what she needs which was basically everything!
Your friend car sounds better and I would strongly suggest to get the quarters fitted. My engine isn't date coded so that was a bit of let down but that was the second '68 r/t 4 speed with almost numbers matching driveline I saw in 4 years so couldn't let it pass! They don't come up for sale very often, once every 2 years maybe or maybe I just couldn't find any!
Anyway,I would not let her go under 15-20k!If he can wait it out someone would buy it,I know I would!

The quarters and trunk are already installed and primed.

That's not very helpful if you want a firm opinion on value.

If you are looking to buy this car for yourself, I'd go with Homer's advice; caveman also makes valid points.  Start him at around 10-11K, and work your way up until you can come to an agreement on the price.  Based on what you've said; I personally would not go over 16K for the car.  It is after all a project, likely needing another 20K minimum to complete.  :2thumbs:
^That's on the 68.

I'm not wanting to buy it. He is just considering which one to sell. I have a 70 rt original paint car that I have almost finished and I just bought a 69 rt 4 speed that is a rust free project car. B7 blue with blue int. I paid a lot more than 16k for it. I think original sheet metal cars are worth more.

Indeed, you also said the magic words; "Rust Free".  Unlike your friend's, which you described as being apart, and needing metal work.  As Homerr said, 20K ceiling.

End of the day, I'd sell the 66, and use whatever cash made to invest into the 68 R/T. (If I were in your friends shoes)  In the long run, if done right, it will be the more valuable car.
