Just bought a 73 Challenger, previous owner said it has a 360 in it but it has 340 badges on the hood, is there any way of telling the difference between the 2 ? Thanks

340 or 360 should be stamped on the drivers side of the block.

Its cast in so it is raised off the block, but yes, on the drivers side of the block.

it could have been an original 340 car but the engine could have been replaced at some point with a 360...      my recently acquired 73 Challenger was a 340 Rallye car but the original 340 is long gone...    a 318 sits in it now with a 904.

Not sure if you are questioning the badges or motor.
If it's a 73 you would never have the 360 badges since that is a 74 intro motor.

As others mentioned.  Should be stamped on block.

'74 Rallye Auto (WH23L4) (quad black)

It's also stamped in the front of the block right below the drivers side head.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.
