68 BENGAL R/T

Got a hold of some original '68 BENGAL Charger emblems for my Original '68 BENGAL car!!!
I have recently come back to the DodgeCharger.com because I have been seriously entertaining the idea of
finally restoring my '68 Bengal Charger I have owned for almost 40 years. I came across a post in a Bengal
Charger Forum topic from 2014 from aray17 that he had original emblems from the Tom Kneer dealership that
closed in the late 70's. Hemi-Hampton contacted him and bought 3 '72 Bengal emblems, and some guy from
Pennsylvania who made a '68 Bengal clone bought 2 of the '68's.
What are the chances of him still having the remaining 2 '68s???  I sent him a email last month and last
week I received 2 NEW '68 BENGAL Charger emblems to replace my originals!!!
Thanks again aray17 and DodgeCharger..com!

That's really cool!
Is that a current pic of your Charger?

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

68 BENGAL R/T

Yes, I moved it out of the garage and took a couple of pictures one nice, 70 deg. Michigan day last month.
Today we had 30 deg. and snow showers.

Since you guys have  NOS emblems, how hard/expensive would it be to have some new emblems made using the NOS ones as templates? Just curious.

I'm not really sure what the cost would be. Might depend on how many you want to make so for just 2 or 4 it could be expensive?
I talked with Mark Worman from Graveyard Carz about my restoration last year and he suggested that but he didn't give any
indication of what it would cost. Then I was able to get a hold of these.

I am going to go out on a limb and say the style shown with the 68 was made by an aftermarket dealership emblem supplier. That bracket "Charger" is in is super common in old dealer emblems from across the nation. The fonts of the lettering vary to suit the order, biut I have seen that style on many. It will take some research, but that was not an unusual style. I am thinking multiple suppliers had that style mold. You may be able to find one place that still has the castings to make them.

Here is a place that will machine them out of aluminum..not accurate, but an option.

PS- These guys are selling emblems that appear to be made by the same castings. You may want to ask them where they have them made and take it from there.

Nice find. You probably got the last two to be had.

That one can be restored  but it's not easy. Before console tops were being reproduced guys would have to drill each pit out of the metal and fill them in, with solder I believe. There are people out there who do it. Not cheap but much cheaper than making new ones. It would be cool to reproduce them but you'd never make your money back. Very few people would consider building a Bengal clone and there are too few originals.

68 BENGAL R/T

Yes, Hemi-Hampton and I got the last original BENGAL emblems of his stash.
Allan's story is that his brother was working at Kneer Dodge in 1976 and snagged them from going in the trash, thought they were cool. they've been on the shelf in a milk jug for 40 years.
Only in 2014 did he really learn that these were as rare an item as they are when the guy who made the clone in Pennsylvania contacted him.

Why, do you plan on making a clone?

No, I don't want to make a clone.
Since there are probably no more NOS emblems available, it would be good to make a 1/2 dozen or so in case anyone every needs them. It is my understanding that dealers used to be able to get these made easily. It would be a nicer product to start with a brand new, as close to perfect as possible, instead of using a beat up used emblem.

That was before our society sold our souls to China.  Back in the day there was a fabrication shop and a tool 'n' die shop on the same block of every dealer.  Now it's all China, so you have to find a specialist.  Hope you do.  (sorry to be pessimistic).

I don't think you'd recoup your cost on half dozen. AMD wont make a 70 only Charger front fender because they won't sell enough to recoup there cost they say? And they would probably sell thousands of those fenders. LEON.
