AVS Secondary Air Door Tension

I've got a stock Carter AVS on my 440.  The SM states a specific way to set the spring tension , but I'm sure the spring is tired.

How much spring tension should there be.....holding the secondary air door closed until you punch it?

I know it might be kinda hard to gauge, but should it open with just a very gentle touch of the finger, or should it be a set stiffer than that?

I'm trying to keep the stock carb, but it wasn't running great at the end of last season.  I thought about the air door over the winter, and the spring tension adjustment might be part of the problem.
