I wanted to see if anyone has taken apart the metal bezel that goes around the plastic ( where the gauges go). Best I can see it is held together with melted plastic.
Anyone take this apart before?

Dino

No I didn't go THAT crazy. Why do you want to take it apart?

The lenses need to be polished. and the metal painted, there is some rust. This is my practice piece.

Dino

I polished mine as well but don't recall I had to do the inside. If you can leave it assembled you can submerge it in Evaporust to take care of the rust. Then rinse it off, paint the metal, and polish the outside of the lens. If you have to take it apart then you need to cut the melted tabs and glue everything back in place afterwards. Liquid abs is best but hot glue will work as well. It's not going anywhere once it's installed.

I Just did this to my Cluster.
Just heat the plastic lugs with a soldering iron whilst pulling up on the metal frame - do this slowly and keep the heat on the plastic lug until the plastic melts and pulls through the frame. Do this on each lug working around the frame till it's free. When you need to reassemble place the frame in position and re-melt the plastic whilst pushing the frame back down. Don't worry if a lug breaks when you are trying to take it apart - just keep the broken piece so you can melt it back into position at assembly time.
Good Luck
