Rear Leaf Spring color?

I've seen numerous threads and pictures of guys painting their leaf springs black, the same as the rear axle in semi gloss black. Was just about to give my resto guy my rear axle assembly to media blast and paint everything black and then I see that the leaf springs should be "natural" and / or some were painted black with a brush only (probably to keep some line worker occupied). I always thought they were black...

Thoughts on this, for my '69 Bee that came off Lynch Road??  :shruggy:

I always thought flat black or "natural" / grey looks good on a "resto build"

Thanks, I was going to give the shop springs and axle together... but I think I'll pull it down totally into pieces and let them blast everything, paint the rear axle, pumpkin and shock plate semi gloss black and just leave the springs bare. I think that would look better as well for a colour contrast. Maybe spray them with Fluid film or similar to keep from rusting.

To the best of my knowledge:

"Springs should be painted dull stainless steel to duplicate the unpainted appearance.  However some were painted 30deg gloss black."

This was for a 2nd Gen Charger, taken off a restoration planning spreadsheet (that has been passed around for years).  :Twocents:

Thanks... so we're still talking some contrast from the semi gloss on the axle assembly and shock plate if they are black?!

Back N Black

I bought a new set from the dealer last week and they are painted black. I'm going to repaint to give it the bare metal look. My charger is black, just want a little contrast.

Did mine with cast iron color paint
Chris' '69 Charger R/T

when I restored the set on my Dad's 69 GTX vert, they were dipped in black paint and notated it as I took it apart.  When I repainted it, I hung it from the ends and laid the paint on heavy after reassembly just as the factory would have done.  When I restored the set on my charger, I also did them in cast iron steel like Chris did.
