Hello, I have to rebuild my 440 engine. Car is in Florida (Miami) and I've asked for some prices...They have told me total cost is about 8-10k. I would like to make more than 500 hp and I know that's gonna be expensive, but...how much would be fair?
I think I will get some of the parts used to try to save some dollars. Do you recommend anybody near Miami to do this work?
I have planned this...
* Ideal compression 10.5:1
* Speed Pro PN 2355F Forged flattop pistons
* Holley dominate carburetor (850 or 950)
* Aluminum Performance Intake manifold (Mopar Performance M1, Holley Street Dominator, or Edelbrock)
* Aluminum Heads
* Mild cams (Lunati VooDoo are a great choice)
* Upgrade radiator and relocate radiator water deposit next to the radiator (NOT in the lateral, its original location)
* MSD Ignition
* 3 inches tubes exhaust with tti Headers, mid X-pipe and Flowmasters original 40 series mufflers

I know they are too much questions, so I appreciate any advice you can give me. Thanks in advance!

These days it's not too difficult to make 500hp and keep it street friendly.  :2thumbs:

Here's a nice build to look at  :icon_smile_big:

You could substitute a Performer RPM intake manifold and ProForm 850dp carb for the 6-pack and make the same power  :yesnod:

What all is included in their $8-10K estimate? Drop off the car and get it back ready to drive?, or a short block with heads, or something in-between?

Also, you can get to 500 hp a lot of different ways.  The right path for you to take on the engine build needs to be dictated by what you want the CAR to be.  You need to be clear on this, otherwise you will end up either spending more money, or not getting what you want.  Here is an example: Me and several of my friends have cars with nearly identical hp.  Personally,  I would rather not be in their car's for more than about a 15 minute drive, and just listening to them idling would be annoying to me if it were my car.  They love there cars, and are not really that fond of mine. In the end, we all spent about the same on our engines, depending on where you draw the line.

It really does not cost that much more to build a quality 400 hp long block verses a 600 hp long block, and $8-10K is probably about right.

500" NA, Eddy head, pump gas, exhaust manifold with 2 1/2 exhaust with tailpipes
4150 lbs with driver, 3.23 gear, stock converter
11.68 @ 120.2 mph

Thanks to everybody! Your advices have been usefull for me. I am now looking for the right torque converter. Right now, I have bought Lunati Voodoo cam 268/276 kit, msd ignition kit, Edelbrock 75cc RPM aluminum cylinder heads, Holley Street dominator intake manifold and Holley 850 carburetor. For the exhaust, think I will choose TTI headers + x mid-pipe + flowmasters original 40 series mufflers + round tailpipes. Is there any other advice you can give? Do you suggest any parts?

Thanks again!
