Surprising (to me, anyway) results.  I've been a Freiburger fan for a while and am really digging this new series.

Wow.  That was cool.
Those guys should have a real show.   Real world information and builds.   They could be the myth busters on car stuff.    :2thumbs:

interesting video !!  was kind of guessing / knew !  a few  small clearance dents were not going to make any difference ,  seeing as they are quite  aways from the head , gasses already evacuated from the exhaust port & slowing down , ( my guess , not sure if i'm using the correct words  :P )  , but well supprised , how they want to town with a hammer & still really no effect ,  :faint:   still who would beat on a coated set of step headers or  .. from TTi & think oh that don't matter , still produce same power  :P

be interesting to see , what cast iron exhaust manifold would do , on a motor like that also , just for a reference type thing

I'm not surprised.

Look at the gigantic difference in the total size of the passages between iron manifolds vs full length headers.  If that's only a few dozen HP, then the flow loss of a couple of minor dents on a set of big headers should logically be in the single-digits of HP.

The loss would be proportionally greater if we were putting "dents" in iron manifolds though.  So much less raw passage area means any obstructions would be a bigger percentage of the total.

I was surprised.  :o  Coming from the 2 stroke world where the exhaust is a critical part of the engine design, I would have expected to see more of a difference than that at the high rpms.

One thing I was just thinking about was heat.  On a dyno run its more like a quarter mile run.   Wouldn't dented headers as bad as they smashed them cause way more heat on constant pulls?   Say road racing or off road like Baja?   Will the pipes get hotter only OR will you see hotter engine temps?  They didn't show engine temps.

I'm just thinking in a racing situation where temps are high and you're trying to keep the engine as cool as possible it's going to run hotter.    :Twocents: :shruggy:
But for just small dents for clearing steering box I agree it's not an issue.

Excellent video.  Thanks for posting.

I always wondered how TTI can tell a customer to go ahead and "appropriately alter" the structure of the header.  They must know this already.

Good video, it cracked me up when dented the 4 tubes on the right side.... then gained a HP.
I like Frieburger's videos, its cool to see him work with Dulcich, I always thought Dulcich was great when he was the tech editor of Mopar Muscle Magazine... I learned a lot from his articles when I was younger.

I saw that show, was interesting to find out how a dent has so little effect on exhaust gasses,  now makes me wonder if press bent exhaust pipes really are outclassed by mandrel bent tubes.  Really don't see why a set of tailpipes should cost over 1k, when a muffler shop can put on some pipes for a couple hundred.

Great point.  I always liked the clean smooth look of mandrel bent tubes. --It's nice to find out what we are buying for looks is an extra that adds little or nothing to performance. Show and go are different things :slap:

Im still trying to figure out how smaller longtube headers cost you horsepower but bashed in big headers make more hp.

myk

Gives or takes power, who wants smashed up headers in their car?
