Changing lifters on a 440 with Edelbrock Heads. Intake need to come off?

I am planning a head for later this year when I have to address my ticking noise, I have a feeling its the lifters that I re used with my cam that sat in the motor for 13 years while I restored the car.  I want to avoid extra work of course so I was wondering if anyone has changed out lifters without removing the intake?

I read a few things online about changing them with a stock 440 but never tried it myself. Is there enough room in the Edelbrock head to sneak the lifter through with a magnet? I have a few telescoping magnet tools that would do the trick but Im not sure if it would clear.

If I have to remove the intake, so be it but I figured its worth a shot.   :shruggy:

The intake must come off to swap the lifters.  :yesnod:

Have a look at the Johnson lifters if you are going to replace. New lifters also need to be properly broken in.  ;)
