440 hard starting, back firing through carb

Hello,

Maybe 6 or 7 years ago we had a 440 rebuilt and put it in the Charger. Its always ran decently,  not perfect, but decent. The last time the car was driven was 2 years ago. We started the motor every 6 months or so while it was sitting to make sure it kept everything oiled up. And we have run it out of gas so that there wouldn't be any gas left to go bad. Every time we start it we put a gallon of new gas in so that it will have the freshest.

We parked it due to the rear drum brakes always locking up. Now we are putting disc brakes all the way around with hotchkis suspension.

However we went to start it and now it wont run well and it will backfire from the carb. We were able to get it to run for about 30 seconds however it was very rough idle and it eventually died back out. People thought it might be out of time but i have a hard time understanding how it ran fine prior and now it can barley run at all. It should be noted that it was maybe 20 degrees outside so it was could, but the 79 vette fired right up after a couple of pumps so the charger should be able to too.

Any ideas where to start first?

Thank you,
Adam

Check the dizzy, advance could be sticky from the cold.

Worst thing for a car is to let it sit. Could have rust or junk in your fuel lines and that is gumming up the carb causing it not to run properly.

For the backfiring, start with the easy stuff like spark plugs, make sure the spark plug wires are good and properly attached, check that the coil is still working properly, verify the timing, and make sure the choke is not sticking.

The engine might just be cold and need to be warmed up. Try feathering the throttle for a few minutes until the engine gets up to operating temperature and see if the problem persists.
