Guys thanks for all the "interesting" input.  This is my BROTHER'S car.  I did not mean to mislead anyone.  My brother is not looking to FLIP the car and make a million.  This was an honest post about a car that HE and I are reallllllllllly excited about.  There is no "elephant in the room"  I was very clear that this car is out of my(our) league.  Of course I'm (we) are interested in what the R/T would be worth to an investor/collector.  There is no hidden agenda here.  I will post more pics as I get them. HE (We) intend to have the car out at Carlisle,PA this summer for people to see and enjoy.  And no HE did not rip off the original owner.  Owner stated a price and it was purchased.

crj1968

I see no elephant...just a 440.   :icon_smile_big:
I agree with the others leave it as is.   :yesnod:

i gotta ask...

Finding a car like that, id consider that very lucky

If you had/have a chance to buy it, why would you even consider selling it. I can see if it was a project car, or non numbers matching

But a time capsule car like that...I clean it up, maybe professionally detailed, and keep it, driving it only on nice sunny days

They dont make them anymore, why not keep it if you can?

Aero426

Definitely not a car for restoration.  Looks like a great car.

Like I said... this is not my expertise!  Does anyone out there know a "survivor" guy?  I don't want to do anything dumb to the car and I have my other toys to drive so I don't hurt this one.  Can anyone put me in touch with a Survivor person for some advise?  Thanks in advance.   :shruggy:

Well - survivors are what I mostly collect - and I have judged them at the MCACN show.....along with Frank Badalson. I suggest posting as many pics as possible and me and others will comment as needed. Do not stampede into any areas..................... and document everything.

Looks like they made 1983 4-speeds

go through the mechanicals save all of the old parts, I would go through the entire brake system including the lines also yes replace the fuel tank and the lines, put the factory tank in the box the new one came in and put it away. This is what we did with our superbird, it sat for 23 years in a garage 81-04. Basically what we did was replace anything that I thought would go bad from sitting and then start being used again. Love the car, my father had a white 69 R/T Coronet 440 ramcharger hood console auto rump stripe delete black vinyl top, it was parked in 78 and he sold it in 2010 to buy a new Challenger.

That was part of the question....Should it be driven or not?   It was actually amazing.  The motor seemed to be locked up.  Pulled the plugs and put marvel mystery oil in all cylinders and carb.  Let sit for two days, changed fuel filter and the thing fired up, idled perfect and kept the temp at 185 degree.  Does need a radiator re core but works.  I'll try and post pics of the engine compartment, interior, and underside.  It has its original cross over exhaust in place and surprisingly enough still has the original universal joints on driveshaft with white paint markings.  I guess the original owner must not have dumped the clutch much back in the day...

I think you keep and clean up everything that is original. Any orig parts that have been replaced you replace with the best NOS or repro parts avaiable to make it functional.

This what I did to my Charger, but not down to the wear items level. I did replace things with the closest to orig I could find as long as it wasn't crazy  money.

I might spend a little money to get down to even the wear items level on this car.

I drive mine 3K a year. This one should not be driven that much but it would be a shame not to drive it s few hundred miles a year.

I'm in agreement with most here. Clean it, fix the safety items and enjoy it.---If it had something like less than 100 miles on it then it could be more of a museum piece (value wise) kinda like those cars that are restored to as correct as possible (and then some ) but much better cause it's real. :2thumbs:

We see lot's of cars that have had lot's of money invested in them to make them clones of what they were.--- IMO a real original has a greater value than a fake original. :shruggy:----However the market place for something special is as special as those that pay to play.

You Said.

"Owner stated a price and it was purchased."

And how much did owner state :scratchchin: :shruggy:  LEON.

I don't see where it matters.  If the seller is happy with the price, that's all that matters.

Is it a buyers job to educate a seller?

Some time ago I saw an ad that read "Plymouth 2dr, scoops on hood, $2500."   :scratchchin:
I called and went out there and there was a really nice original Sassy Grass 71 Duster Twister.  At the time it was maybe worth $5K. But I gave them the $2500 and drove it away. I didn't feel guilty, I felt I got a good deal.

If this guy got a steal (?) on the R/T and gave the seller what he wanted then it is what it is. It happens all the time.

Kern Dog

Fess up, Graybo. What was the purchase price? Are you hesitant to divulge because you think it was too much or an outright steal?
Glad to see a nice survivor brought out in the open. This is your chance to set the standard on what others may expect to pay for a similar car that may pop up.

That is the fault of the seller.  An honest buyer with a conscience might let the seller know that it is worth more by making an offer that more reflects the actual value, but it's not necessary.  It's still on the seller to know what he's selling.

crj1968

I'm really not sure how it is anyone's business what they payed for the car.
It's not like they beat the guy with a baseball bat and stole it.

Have fun with the car graybo....thanks for showing it here.

Kern Dog

I used to like the "Rare Finds" and "Hidden Treasures" articles in Mopar Muscle magazine...However, the most annoying thing is when they don't tell what the purchase price is. It serves as a DISservice to every reader. These are not new cars where the MSRP is clearly listed on the window sticker. Prices paid help to determine what the market prices are for others to know. What is the big secret? Why post all over the internet about the car if you're not going to tell the whole story?

moparstuart

you guys may want to know the price , but its his car and he has no obligation to any of you to tell what he bought it for
GO SELL CRAZY SOMEWHERE ELSE WE ARE ALL STOCKED UP HERE

graybo

My Dad smacked me in the face years ago when his co worker was showing him a car he just bought and I asked him "how much did that cost?".  I Was told that it is rude to ask someone that and I still believe it!  So now you have the "whole story"  KERN DOG. :nana:
