Alright so I didn't take pictures and now I can't remember which way the linkage rod goes between the hood lock and the release lever on the grille frame.   :icon_smile_blackeye:  Anyone have a picture?  There's also two small retainer clips and I mixed them up with other types of clips so a close up of how they go and where would be helpful as well.  Thanks!

That's the spot but that linkage looks way different than mine.  I don't have anything running from the lever to the passenger side.  :scratchchin:

You happen to have a picture Myk?  It seems the rod should go on one way, but I don't see how the clip secures it to the lock part.

Damn sun got in the way.

From what I can tell the clip doesn't actually hold it in, it just makes sure that the rod won't come out, which it really can't because of the S-shape of the rod itself.

So.....Clayton, what is that other wire/rod and where is it going to on the passenger's side?

Dino

Thanks buddy

That's what I couldn't figure out, the only way to make the clip fit is like that, and it will be pretty pointless!  Honestly, the rod won't come out either end because of the shape.  You need either lock or lever unbolted to get the rod into place.  I'll just blame mopar again.

The clip is just to keep it from rattling. The one. On the inside door handle is like that too.

That's good to know!  I'm glad there's an actual reason for it being there.   :2thumbs:

I've only seen the cable on a few. I have a few theories of why. Maybe to limit the travel. Or another. Way to reach in to unlatch the hood if the handle way inop.

I'm trying to get this linkage into place but when I do, it does not run parallel to the frame like in these pictures.  The linkage I have has a bend to it and the only way it seems to fit well on both ends is when that bend is toward the radiator.  So it creates a lot of space between frame and linkage rod.  Can someone post a few more pics so I can see how it's supposed to go pretty please?  I'm confused...

Maybe you should post a few pics of what you have. Maybe we will see something.

Don't mind the pink towels...

Lemme guess, the rod is bent?  I always thought that's how they were supposed to be.

Pictures 4 and 5 were taken with the linkage rod in the same position.  The ends fit well in the lock and lever but there's a big gap between linkage and frame.  Picture 3 shows the linkage in the other way.  Now the rod is parallel to the frame, but the end in the lever is angled badly.  The more I look at it and compare to the other guys' pictures, the more I'm convinced the linkage needs to be straightened and installed as in picture 3.

That rod is bent as well.  Not necessarily the same as the one on my car though so maybe they bend over time when there's too much pressure?   :shruggy:

The only way I can get that rod in to look like the link I posted is to insert it in the lock from the back.  I don't think that's how it goes though.

I guess I'll have to bend the rod to see what works but I'll wait until I have the grille back in the frame to make sure the lever is centered right through the hole in the grille.

Alright, this was stupid.  The rod was just bent.  All this time I thought it was supposed to be like that because the bend looks like it belongs.  I slid the center section of the grille in and noticed the release lever was not where it belonged.  I straightened the rod which was real easy to do with my fingers, hooked it up and the lever is now where it should be.  This is embarrassing...

But how would have known if you didn't ask?  No such thing as a stupid question!
