Hey guys, im wanting to make some more power and i need help!

I have a 400 engine, wanting to stroke it but I want some opinions or past experiences with similar setup. I was thinking a 470 or 500 kit from 440 source or a 498 kit from hughes, I haven't done much business with either except I have the stealth heads from 440 source, was wondering of you guys knew the quality of either and what your overall opinions are of the bigger cu kits or the 470 as far as driveability. Thanks!

I think both have a well established reputation by now, neither could be called a newcomer.

If you are going to run stock stealth heads then i reccomend the 451 kit.

Depending upon Camshaft(just cheap Hydraulic Flat Tappet Cams), we were between 486 hp / 554 Ft lbs right on up to 545 hp and 565 Ft lbs

I am of the opinion that the Stealth heads "out of the box untouched"... meaning with no work done to them, are NOT well suited for Stroker builds ?
To explain,
They are "adequate" for 440/451 stuff, but as you move up bigger /closer to 500" stroker packages, IMO, one should budget for getting some work done to them for "best" results, lest they become an rpm "choke" point on your Stroker.

I went with the 470" from 440 Source.  I have the Edelbrock RPM's with a little work, 10.5:1, a Comp 285 cam, and QF 830 carb.  I haven't started the motor yet, but it won't be long.  I read a lot about the 470" being more reliable than the larger stroker kits.  Since this is not a motor for the track, I wanted a little more reliability I went this route.  Good luck with your build.

My 440 to 500 stroker from 440 source is still going strong after 8 years.  I didn't use the Stealth heads though.

i built a 451 with all mopar parts except for KB stroker pistons an stealth heads.
440 steel crank ground to 400 mains an balanced internal
440 steel rods floated wit ARP bolts an balanced
i ran this motor for 7 years with no problems on the street it rips ! 3.54 gears 2800 stall converter on pump gas 93 octane
best et 12.66 @ 104 mph in quarter mile in a 69 charger at mopar nats made it to runner up ! got beat by a 10 sec dart wit slicks.

how much hp do you think this 451 stroker makes ??

the new SRT Hemi challengers were running high 12 et  wit dot slicks
the RT Hemi chargers an challengers were running high 13 et
GTS Viper ran a 11.80 et  pretty sick

cant wait to see the Hellcat run if it hooks ?
