If you haven't heard, Playboy is going non nude.  Currently, the website is already non nude, and the magazine will follow in March of next year.   So, how many will be interested in the magazine? :popcrn:

The German Playboy mag is not following that line. I haven't read a playboy in years. Just one click and you can find way better things than playboy

It is for that reason, they are going in this new direction.  Basically, another Maxim magazine

Dino

So they're taking the only good part of it out?  Yeah that'll work.

Wait...read?  There's words in there?

I suppose its much cheaper for models but where will Hef do his farming now?

They said membership of their web based version went up after taking nudes off, so they are following suite with the print version. As far as being a lifestyle magazine, they were doing that long before Maxim. This move may actually expand their readership. Of course I wonder how many you will actually see in the magazine rack at the Dr's office.

Yes, you can find more and better eye candy online. You no longer have to steal your dad's copy to show you buddies at school. You simply pull it up on your phone during recess.

There number were 5.6 million in 76 i believe they said down to 800 thousand now. Why by the magazine when porn is free on line. :shruggy:

I have literally not looked at a Playboy in about 40 years. But that said, I bet this will be the end of the magazine after a few years.

The old joke used to be "I read it for the articles", which, I understand, they supposedly had some very good writing.

Now we'll really see the true test of the folks who "read it for the articles".

The true end of an era......  :'( another publishing icon brought down by the dark forces of the "WEB"  :coolgleamA:

Writing was great, and so were the women.  The thing is, times have changed, and maybe it's time to admit that Playboy isn't relevant in the cloud age...

sad to see the end of an era  :'(   but I always preferred penthouse anyway   :D

Most of the arguments against Playboy surviving are applicable to most print magazines.  Girly mags or Maxim or Cosmopolitan or the New Yorker.

Or Hot Rod, or Mopar Muscle, or Mopar Action.

I always preferred Penthouse's more graphic, explicit style of photography over Playboy.  Playboy always featured heavily airbrushed, ridiculously dressed women with costumes that looked half on, half off, with MOST of their privates showing, topped with painfully insincere smiles.  I like seeing fully, FULLY naked women with no artsy-fartsy costumes or set pieces; just completely naked female beauty with the occasional 'gyno shot or two.  On that, Penthouse always delivered.  Hustler did also but seemed a lot more raunchy than what I liked... :scratchchin:

I heard that playboy used to have magazines in brail for the blind.  If you were dyslexic and blind that would really mess you up sexually.    :smilielol:

Hmmm........while I will not comment on being messed up sexuality.......I really don't think dyslexicia has anything to do with it.......

Seriously, I do remember hearing about a braille version......one could honestly say they bought it for the writing. :yesnod:

The guys getting it after the change will be the ones afraid of their wives. Now they can say it isn't any different than a Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue.  Playboy should get more "celebrities" to pose since it will not be nude I bet.

All of this means squat as I have not opened one in 10+ years(insert dirty slam here) and sad to say they do have some of the better interviews in it.

By removing the nudes teenager boys can buy them instead of smuggling and that will put sales up and still get the job done for them.  :2thumbs:

I think if they don't go this way it will die off, as mentioned the internet has whatever your viewing pleasures are.

You are a funny man, MYK. I've said it before, we seem to think a LOT alike.
The one thing about Penthouse that did annoy me though was their soft focus photography. It looked like they had a thin layer of Vaseline on the lense. I felt like I was looking at the pictures through sleepy eyes. I still enjoyed them though...

Hmmm....gonna have to dig up some old issues to compare...

So does this move by Playboy do anything to the collector market for sixties and seventies issues?

I've tossed lots of old magazines over the years and this is another one that may be a good idea to hold on too. :slap:

Omni mags. were on my list in those days and my girl friends picked up the slack. :D  I have all issues of omni.

My --tossing the old stuff ---phase that I'm in pushes me to dump the old playboys. If I don't do it someone will do it for me. They are heavy and don't ship cheap. :slap:
