My daily driver developed a horrendous vacuum leak, so bad you could hear it sucking like a hoover. I traced it to the carb so I pulled it  and decided to pull the adaptor plate and clean it at the same time. Upon pulling the adaptor plate I found one of the manifold vacuum tracks full of silicone!

Once everything was cleaned I test fitted everything and it was apparent that someone cut part of the ear off that covers the port, the solution to fix it... Fill the manifold with silicone.

I'm still blown away that someone would actually attempt to repair something this way.

I've seen some pretty rough ones myself...I bought a 1980 cj5 one time that somebody had installed a holley 4 barrel on via a 2bbl - 4bbl adapter. They couldn't get the adapter to fit the 304 manifold right so they just coated the entire mounting service in some sort of 2 part epoxy and essentially glued the damn thing down!
Daddy ran whiskey in a big black dodge
bought it at an auction at the masons lodge,
Johnson County Sherriff painted on the side,
just shot a coat of primer then he looked inside,
well him and my uncle tore that engine down,
I still remember that rumblin' sound.....
