question for those with this shift kit

How often do you guys manually shift your cars with this kit?

I find myself shifting manually 2-3 times on a cruise.....always upshifting, never down

Just curious if anybody else does this, and if its bad for the trans?  :shruggy:

For me, generally just at the dragstrip.  Sometimes in regular driving for one reason or another,  :D but for the most part no.  I don't think it's harming it unless you're doing something really out of the ordinary with it.

maybe a spirited acceleration once in a while.

i was just curious....i was told it was ok to do with that shift kit (atleast every once in a while)

Ghoste

Absolutely, it's a great shift kit and works very well.

That's the kit I've used in all my 727 trans cars.   I put 75K on a 68 hemi RR and manually shifted it a lot with no problems.

Stegs

great, thats what i wanted to know

I was pretty sure it was ok, but i wanted to make sure!

Yes, it is hard on the trans and associated parts.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Well, obviously, the shifter gets more use when shifting manually and will wear sooner.

In Drive the rear band isn't applied in 1st gear but it is in manual 1 so shifting into manual 1 puts more wear and tear on the band and its components (more so because of the increased line pressure with the TF-2 kit); when upshifting from manual 1 to 2 the band has to be released and it's released by spring pressure only so there is some wear on the band during release that would not occur when using Drive. The TF-2 kit speeds up the rear band release so it  mitigates the band release wear but doesn't prevent it.

When installing the TF2 kit the instructions are to install the new spring and back off the pressure adjuster to flush but they don't give any pressure readings, what are the pressures that should be seen from each test port with the TF2 kit? - sorry for hijacking the thread.

Just call Transgo. They have really good tech support that always answers the phone.

read through this, it was very informative.  http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,116660.msg1448142.html#msg1448142  I left the ball in the D shaped cavity and went with the smaller drill sizes on the seperator plate and the transmission shifts are nice and firm, not harsh at all.

The new spring supplied with the kit is stiffer and will produce higher line pressure even with the adjuster backed off. I would expect to see line pressure at least 10-15 psi higher than stock.

I called trans go

the tech person said the occasional manual shift is fine, and will not harm the trans in any way.

He said if you do it all the time he suggested the full manual valve body

I told him i dont race the car, just some "spirited" accelerations every now and then, and he said thats basically what the kit is for....just as long as its "NOT EVERYTIME"

Id say if i do it 4-5 times a month, no harm done

Did he give you the line pressure specs?

no sorry, i didnt ask tho either, i just asked if it was going to do harm to the trans

he basically said, once in a while is fine, and if i did it all the time he suggest the full race kit? or something like that
