I'm fairly new here but have been following the board for awhile.

I picked up a plain 68 318 A/C car that was taken down to metal. The floors are solid as well as frame rails.  There is rot behind both wheels on the quarters. The drivers quarter is pretty lumpy and I'm not sure how much can be done to save it as it's been pulled out before and seems thin. The pass side is better but it was already replaced awhile ago and there is a lap weld at the sail panel   :-\.  It's too bad because the fender would be workable if it weren't for that.

Not sure what the plans are yet- my plan was to keep this in the queue for later.

All minor stuff, Make a list, and start ticking things off

I took a disc to the roof today as there was surface rust from sitting out. I need to top coat this thing temporarily. I noticed a lot of pitting on the roof skin. I'm hoping I can salvage this -- opinions welcome here. This is the biggest project I've ever taken on. It looks more solid than some here have started with but to me it's slightly intimidating.

I think you're ok. Clean up with a rust product and a little skim coat and it'll look like new.   I think you did good on buying that car.    :2thumbs:

Yeah thats a great car, Just keep your standards nice and low, That way it will be easy to exceed them  no seriously, Don't try and make it pretty, Just fix things slowly and worry about the finish when the time comes.

If you are intimidated by what you are looking at. DONT tear the car completely apart, Just do repairs like any other car, suspension, brakes, Things you should be familiar with. After that you can either find a guy to do the body, Or take it on yourself.

Yeah I agree, I have a perfection problem. Thanks for talking me down. I was thinking best to get it moving and stopping on its own first. That in itself will be a bit of time. My plan is 440/727, super simple. I can pretty much do everything myself over time so that's good. I just need to pick up an assembly manual and figure out what I need.

Thanks Skip! That's encouraging.
