Hello.  I tried to find info, but i cant find anything. So can you tell me band tightening specs to my 70 charger rt 727?

Proper link is also good!

Thanks :yesnod:

If you don't have an inch pound torque wrench just tighten the adjuster stud snug with a short (4") adjustable wrench. Front band adjuster is external, above and forward of the shift lever.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

  Thank you very much  :2thumbs:

I have not changed atf yet because i havenĀ“t had these specs. Now i can do it in same time.

What is the purpose of backing off the adjuster, and what happens if it not backed off enough, or too much?
1972 Charger Topper Special, 360ci, 46RH OD trans, 8 3/4 sure grip with 3.91 gear, 14.93@92 mph.
1973 Charger Rallye, 4 speed, muscle rat. Whatever engine right now?

Tightening the adjuster stud removes all free play from the band, backing it out the specified number of turns sets the desired free play. If not backed off enough, the band will drag and wear prematurely; if backed off too much, shift quality will be affected.

Now i have driven a few days after i adjust bands and change oil.

I did turned 2 turns out after that proper torgue and now i think that 1-2 shift take a lot longer than before adjustment. Do you guys have any ideas why it doing that? I hate my self because i dont count turns before adjustment.  Can the shift be more powerful if i ad more free play?  Are there any transmission racing parts for sale which need different adjustment?

I hope that i figure it out before i burn the bands.

 I Found this http://www.moparts.org/Tech/Archive/auto/3.html

I wonder if i have that 5.0 lever :scratchchin:  and need that 1-1/2 turns

Toni

My quess was right, there was 5.0 lever.  I take the pan off again because i lost second gear totally.

Can you see the problem?

And i think this are a HD part  :shruggy:

And little hammering and welding.  Now i think it is stronger. That metal was very soft,  i think i was able to make a spoon with a hammer of it::)

Fairly common problem, especially with the 5.0 lever. There are many ways to reinforce the strut.

Factory adjustment for that lever is 1 1/2 turns out instead of 2 turns out.

I'm getting a hard shift up to third, right at 40 mph, it'll hang there and 8 out of 10 times it will shift hard into 3rd.  Too much free play in the band?

Need more info. Did this just start, what's the history?

At light throttle the 2-3 shift should occur at around 25 mph max. Late/firm shifts can be due to TP linkage set too tight, back the linkage off (shorten it) a little.
