Track times finally, Is it possible to get the output of the motor?

Hey guys I finally got out to the track this weekend and ran my car, it seemed strong and was pulling the numbers I expected but who knew that there is a lot of skill to the 1/4 Mile which I didnt bring to the track :smilielol:
So here's what I had done and have:
71 Charger 440 6 Pack, 727 with a 2700 stall B&M torque, 355 diff on 15" BF goodrich T/A'S. I dropped the tire pressure to 20 psi. Track temp was 24*C. My reaction times were hideous and I had traction problems for most of first gear.

One of the cars I always lost to was a 73 nova with slicks on he would beat me out of the hole and finish a car length ahead of me :eek2: I found I need track tires for sure. All in all it was fun day out with the car and buddies!
So If the gurus here could possibly give me some hints on performance and race tips :2thumbs:

Very respectable times for your first time out! Next time you go to the track leave on the last yellow light not when you see the green. Also try rolling out not hammering it when you're on street tires. Get those 60 foot times under 2 seconds and I think you'll be real happy with the results. Sounds like you're hooked!

Def get some drag radials , a good figure is every 1/10 you take off your 60' time equates to approx. 1.5 - 2.0 tenths off the ET . So ,run 3 you went 13.44 w/ a 2.099 60' .If you squeeze a 1.900 60 ' , you should be into the 13.00's or dam close to it , anything quicker than a 1.90 60' , even better .
2nd , if you do have drag radials , don't bring it up on the convertor , flash it from around 1,500 rpm .
3rd , when you're staging , after your first stage light comes on , carefully creep up till you just see the second stage start to flicker/blink come on solid and STOP !!! That little extra gives you more of a "running" start before you break the beam and start the clock . You'll see quicker ET's.
4th , try playing around with your shift points , everybody thinks they have to rev the crap out of these things , when actually sometimes will go quicker short shifting , NTM , get into high gear earlier sometimes picks the car up .
5th , old school trick , make sure your front tires have plenty of air in them , actually over inflate them (not past their max inflate pressure) ,less rolling resistance = more MPH .
Try and go to a track rental so you can have tons of runs to play with it .
Your mph was all over the place , run 1 104 ? That is good , but then all your others were 78 (obviously you let off) , then 96 , and 97 .
Once you have drag radials and get consistent back to back runs , then you can use the formula weight of car with driver and best MPH to figure out approx. what kind of HP you are putting to the ground .

As mentioned above the 60ft short times are killing your ET !  :eek2:

The 104mph is good for mid 12's....but you need to get it to hook  ;)

Horsepower is weight to MPH so how much does the car weigh with you in it at the starting line ?  :scope:


Drag radials are your best bet.....M/T DOT street radials work fine.

Tips :

(1) Loosen off front sway bar end links to allow quick rise of the front end ; allows for better weight transfer.

(2) Get some 3 way adjustable drag shocks on the front & back  :2thumbs:

(3) Pump front tires to 45 psi : Less rolling resistance  :yesnod:

(4) Bring it up on the converter to 1500 rpm and drop the hammer at the last yellow light  :devil:

(5) Get a set of Drag radials and run them at 20 psi

** Forget Luskville and go to a real track.....that place is a dump and the starting line sucks !  :lol:

The best hooking track within a few hours drive of Ottawa is Napierville  :2thumbs:

We allways go there in the fall for some new best ET Chasing....cool air and a well prepped track = Fast ET's  :cheers:

Mid to late October is great....the DA is often below sea level  :icon_smile_cool:

Ps. I'll check and see if I still have my old CE drag shocks. They worked great on the Black Pig with the old 446 engine/4200 stall & drag radials. I could hook that thing in a car wash  :lol:
