Can a coil break down gradually or are they more like an "on or off" type of device?  What symptoms would you expect from a failing coil?

Starts cold, but not hot is a first sign of trouble. Coils can be intermittent or cause hard starting when hot and when humid / wet.

No backfire.  Just a sudden engine quitting at lower rpm when under load (floats are set correctly and fuel pressure is fine, ecu has been replaced twice)

Charging system works excellently and the ecu has been changed out a few times without a change in the symptoms.

Replaced the coil with a different one tonight and took it for a long drive and all the symptoms are gone.  Looks like my suspicion was right but thanks for your help all the same Dave.

I had the exact same condition in my Demon once.  Factory coil.  Swapping it out fixed it.
Mopar forever!
