Well I'm finally going to do it. The 14th of April I'm heading in to have Lasik Surgery.
They tell me that there are two kinds that they perform and I'm going to have to choose between one or the other.
One is the the basic bausch and lomb conversional Lasik and the other is zyoptix customized wavefront lasik.
I guess the second option actually maps your personal eye kinda like a finger print and allows more personal post operative benifits.

Any one here ever do either of these? Any sugestions?

difference between the plans are about 400 dollars and I just want some experenced feed back from any of you past lasik guys out there.

Thanks

Hey Lizard, lasik options change fast.  I had mine done with the Baush in 01 and I went from 20/400 in both eyes to 20/15 in both.  Not a single complaint.  My advice would be to go with whatever is the most advanced version.  What's $400 over a life time of great vision?  NOTHING!  When I got mine done it was $500 per eye or $1000 per eye Baush.  I wouldn't trade it for the world.  I love buying $12 sunglasses instead of $300 perscription.  The only side effect I had was a halo around lights at night.  It went away in about 6 weeks after the cornea swelling went down which is completely normal.  Enjoy it man and don't go cheap!  :icon_smile_cool:

Just wondering if there has ever been a failure while getting the procedure done that damaged your eye site or making you blind? Heck of a risk to avoid wearing glass's?!

I don't know about failures but the doctor that is going to be doing mine has over 30,000 sucessful lasik vision proceedures to date and has been doing surgeries for this since 1997. Sounds pretty good by my book and I've been wearing glasses for over 20 years and I'm ready to make the change in my life. Told myself when I turn 40 I was doing it. So I'm doing it.  :yesnod:

Failures are about the only thing that you should be concerned with.  I suggest that you ask the doctor up front what his statistics are.  Plus I would ask him to be specific, in other words, ask the percentage of complaints he gets after surgery (and their basis), the number of mild complications, the number of catastrophic complications, and what lead to each.  I would ask how many law suits have been filed against him, how many are ongoing, and what were the results.  Don't be shy -- the doctor should be used to it.  Kim

My wife just had it done..not sure which type but it was just performed in Feb.  She went from 20-500 vision(legally blind with glasses)  to 20-20.  Everything went perfect.  No complaints and she loves her new eyes!  So do I!

Just don't blink when they are doing it! Oh, if you hear the Dr. say "Oh, shxt!" tell them you want your money back!.......just kidding, you should be fine. They have the lazer procedure pretty much down pat!  I will be next when I finish my restoration on the Chaya. Sick of wearing eye glasses! :yesnod:

I wish I could get Lasik done...I have a vertical astigmatism that none of the lasers can correct yet :rotz:  I guess they can use an actual scalpel on me to correct it, but there is no way I'm letting someone near my eye with an actual blade :o

A friend of mine had that scraping method done.  She said she would never do it again.  She said it was the most painful thing she ever experienced...and she has kids.

My  wife had it done in 2004, and she came out with 20/20, she said she was like 20/80 before.  She had what was available at the time, LASIK is all I know.  She did not like to wear glasses alot and was amazed at the crispness and detail she had been missing out all of those years.  Not to mention, how lucky she felt when she got a good look at her husband  :icon_smile_cool:

70charginglizard

Well I did it.
No more glasses. Everything went fine.
Im free!
Pretty cool feeling when you wake up in the morning to see a crystal clear view around you. Haven't seen that in 25 years.
I took your guys advise and didn't cheap out on any of it. It cost me a bundle but at least I know I'm covered for the rest of my life. Any enhancements or issues are completely covered and I did the lasik that mapped my individule eyes so the sergery was completely unique to me.
It was very uncomfortable when they were pulling my eyelids back but other than that it went very smoothly and was done in less than 10 minutes.
I love my new world (free of glasses) and would highly recomend anyone else considering it to go forward and go for it.
Thanks for all the advise you guys.

I don't know, I don't think I would ever get one of those deals. I would consult my regular doc first and see what he says maybe a good reference. I wouldn't feel comfortable getting from an ad. Not that I need it. But anyways, just wanted to congratulate on the succes. My mom is still thinking about doing it.

Did the military nuke your eyes for you? When I was in '97-'01, it was a disqualifier to have that surgery, now I see that they offer the surgery and I also read that soldiers and Marines were getting their eyes done before heading over to Iraq/Afghanistan.

Did they cover the bill or was it a discount and was it a military VA doctor that performed the surgery? (That is if you answer yes to the first paragraph question).

Larry,
I'm in the Canadian Army.  Unfortunately, our medical system still considers laser eye surgury as "cosmetic" and "experimental" and refuses to cover/provide it for our soldiers.  This is the same for all of our military, not just the Army.  They allow us to have it done, but we have to aknowledge the fact that IF anything goes wrong we could be discharged medically.  Even though the military used to buy me two pairs of glasses every two years, they feel that the long term cost of that outweighs the danger of them possibly blinding a soldier and having to pay a pension.   :icon_smile_dead:  Yeah, I know it's stupid.  Our military paid for a sex-change operation for a guy a few years ago, on mental health grounds, but they won't pay for this ???
I waited, and waited to see if our military would pay for the surgury, just like the US military.  No dice, even after all the studies done by the US military about the safety and successfullness of the surgury.  I grew tired of waiting and paid the $1200 for the surgury, but haven't regretted a day since.  :icon_smile_cool:
