New guy from the Houston area (Pearland, TX) checking in.  I'm on my fourth Charger now, but looking for a new project car.  They are seriously over priced in TX, with a ton of rust, so I'm expanding my search area.  Thanks for having me.

Come to michigan and i will show you over priced and rust  :nana:

Welcome!

ps, i was in texas a few years ago, went thru texarcana into plano/dallas. If i ever move, id choose texas for sure! I loved it there

mikall01

I'm from Ohio originally (GO BUCKS) so I am familiar with the rust belt.  Texas isn't bad, I lived by Plano for a couple years and liked it.  It's just too damn hot 3/4 of the year.

Most of the cars I have found over the years have come from up north so they do have rust.  I have also noticed that people have previously half a** fixed the rust so it spreads.  We don't have as much as the rock salt country, like Dallas and North but it's here.

Skip68:
Well my son is in love with 68 to 70 Charger like everyone else, so with him only being 9, it's a great time to get him engaged.  We don't care about #'s matching or a true R/T.  We'll build what we want and keep it for a long while.  So if you run across anything let me know!  Also, if y'all ever need me to go look at something around here for you in person, feel free to ask.

Welcome here, mikall01. Lots of friendly and helpful folks here that will be glad to help you with your quest.

I live in the Spring Tx. area but grew up in SE Houston near the Howard/Bellfort and I-45 area. As a young teen, me and a couple of buddies used to go snake hunting in the rice fields south and west of Pearland. This was back when it was a sleepy little town and there was nothing BUT rice fields in and around Pearland. One of my buds had an older brother that would take the snake skins and make hat bands out of them and other things also. We kept him supplied with many a water moccasin and helped him skin them.  Cannot believe we used to walk the levees and catch the snakes sunning on the ground. Easy shotgun fodder and would bring home as many as 25 or 30 at a time!

We have a few members from the Houston area and I am sure they would be happy to help you also.  Again, welcome here!

What's your budget?

You know, I'm not sure.  Maybe you can help me, what's a realistic expectation?  I would think I could get a decent project for the 10K range, can I not?

Good luck on the search and welcome.   Personally. I couldn't be happier with the car I had hauled up from Texas.

Thanks for the compliment on my Charger.  I used to do a lot of dove hunting a little east of Almeda Rd. (FM521) and a few miles west of Pearland.  This was back in the '70's and there was absolutely nothing but farm land out there back then.

I cannot believe how much civilization has encroached since then! Finding a decent 2nd gen Charger around here for 10 grand will be hard but not impossible as most good projects are gone. Save as much money as you can and buy the most finished project you can possibly afford. You will be better off in the long run. Have patience but do not wait too long. When you find it, do not take time to think about it, you will be too late!
