I just found this photo album that has DMCL and Vanishing Point location shots from the person's trip in 2006.
That's pretty cool! Look how many other film locations are in that person's list, too.

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

I went through the Vanishing Point set too but desert all pretty much looks the same to me. :icon_smile_wink:

Watching the movie again it looks like the blue chevy has a black steering wheel and black interior at the beginning of the film, and a blue interior and a blue steering wheel later on!

Just got ahold of the same model CB and mike they used in the Impala and Charger in the movie. Anyone know how to work these things? They are before my time.

Looks like a home unit as it doesn't have a 12V input. There is a cord though with a two prong plug on one end to be able to plug it into a wall outlet. The on/off button seems to do nothing. I don't have it hooked up to an antenna, that could be a problem.

Ghoste

You would definitely need an antenna.  I suppose in the movie it was just a prop.  It wouldn't matter if it were able to hook to 12v or run on batteries or whatever.

Found some Picts.

if the route was mapped out, and ending up at the old bar, and that bar property could be rented for a day, it would be a nice cruise event

Hmmm, now that might be something I'd try and make it out to Californica for. :scratchchin:

Here's the train that smashed the Charger...compare for yourself...

It is at a railroad museum in California. ST&E 506, follow the link, very bottom, second in from the left.

Four door hardtop, so it does look like a two door because of the lack of a B-pillar.

Near the beginning of the movie I think Larry says to Deke something like "Do you think we should have picked the Matador instead of the Chrysler?" Wondering if anyone else picked up on that or has any idea what they are talking about.

Were they talking about picking an AMC Matador to buy instead of the Charger?

Ghoste

Yes.  At the time the movie was made (1974 was it's release), the AMC Matador was making a few small inroads at NASCAR.

:yesnod:   , i have got video  of  a early  70's  nascar race  , where one of the drivers ( can't think of his name ) blows the engine in his second generation charger  (  light blue / black roof ),  drives it into the pits &  goes back out in his second car a amc matador .
