69 Fender Tag

I have owned a 68 Charger, sold it and now looking at a 69. The fender tag on a 69 does not give the rear axle ratio? Or am I missing something.

This car has cloth front seats, and vinyl rear seats? But the fender tag reads c6x? Maybe someone changed them but sure do look original? Seems to be oddly optioned too? A/C, RT, no light group, no hood turn signals, but does have belt moldings and wheel lip moldings. Am radio with fader and rear defroster, automatic. Red car with black top and black transverse stripe.

It wasn't uncommon when these cars were common to switch seats rather than recover.

Imo, not oddly optioned.

Sixt8Chrgr

Yea probably is what happened.
I would had expected a light group, and hood signal lights in the car though? But who knows

stripedelete

My R/t is column shift, a/c, no light group.

I gotta give it to you on the blinkers.

6bblgt

only OPTIONAL axle "packages" are on a '69 tag
C6X = black vinyl bucket seats
A/C, radio, rr speaker, defog, vinyl top = OPTION (357.65 + 61.55 + 15.15 + 21.90 + 93.55 = $549.80)
belt mouldings = STANDARD
wheel lip mouldings = STANDARD

the average 1969 Charger has $1000 worth of OPTIONs - what else you got, I bet there's a couple hundred more in there? (tinted glass? mirror? steering? console? brakes? wheels?)

Ghoste

The rear defrost isn't a common option, not rare but not common either.  Same for the rear fader.

What would the standard axle be on an RT 3.23 sure grip?

tan top

 as far as I know  , yes  standard ratio, was / is 3.23 , open !  with the 440 & hemi , with a 727 torqueflite , no  suregrip  , that was a option

Hope to make a deal this week on the car. If I do will post up some pics.

Rear differential isn't listed on the fender tag, its on the build sheet I believe.  Is there a way to check for suregrip besides jacking it up and turning wheels? Believe mine is an open 3.23.
69 RT/SE Y3 cream yellow w/tan vinyl top and black r/t stripe. non matching 440/375, 3:23, Column shift auto w/buddy seat, tan interior, am/fm w/fr to back fade, Now wears 17" magnum 500 rims and Nitto tires. Fresh repaint, new interior, new wheels and tires.

VegasCharger

Hood turn signals in my experience is a strange option. I've seen them more on base 318's and not so on R/T's and 383 H code (like my 68) :shruggy:

D91 = sure grip - another OPTION at $42.35

getting closer 549.80 + 281.30 = $831.10, a typical combination - but you can't go wrong with RED & BLACK!!  :2thumbs:

rear diff ratios and sure-grip codes are on fender tags starting in 67

Ghoste

But only as part of the three performance axle packages.  :icon_smile_wink:
That is, if you order a 3:23 sure Grip, it won't be on the fender tag.

But only coded as normal procedure for 67-68. '69 introduced a whole new coding system and tag layout.
Seeking information on '69 St. Louis plant VINs, SPDs and VONs. Buld sheets and tag pictures appreciated. Over 3,000 on file thanks to people like you.

That car is coded pretty much just like my R/T....'cept mine is a V88 Stripe Delete and I have the A01 light group....so its pretty much not like mine  :slap:

PS--the 7th character should be either a B or a G...not an 8 :Twocents:

Sixt8Chrgr

Glad to report that I made a deal on the car tonight. The paint on the car is poor and the son of the owner painted it orange  :brickwall:. But only one repaint and it is a rust free car. Here is the cool story:

When I was 17 (1981) I kept seeing this older lady riding around in this red 69 Charger. At the time my buddies and I had 78 Camaro Z/28's and Trans Ams but loved the old Charger. We knew the car would smoke our cars but really never got a chance to check it out. Loved the car but it just faded away with time. Fast forward to 2008, I see this article in the paper CL or somewhere about this red Charger for sale. Local car etc. I meet the guy he tells me that he buys this house in this neighborhood where I remember the car and the car is parked in the garage as part of the purchase. He did not know the car was going to be in the garage!!! He bought the house out of an estate sale. I really liked the car but it was November 2008 I thought the World was ending the economy was so bad and getting worse. I passed on the car. Fast forward to March 2015. I am at my lake house and want to walk over and meet my new neighbor. Well it is the same guy that had the Charger in 2008. We recognize each other laugh about it being a small World, and he says, "you know I still have that old Charger and want to sell it". My eyes light up and tongue starts hanging out....(I sold my 68 a few years ago and have been patiently looking for a replacement since then). I tell him well....I would be interested in looking at the car again. I know a little more about these cars now then I did in 2008. When I first looked at the car this past Saturday I was amazed how well preserved the car was. He told me that the car was a one family car always garaged. I knew where the car lived in the neighborhood and the house had a garage. The car has all the original glass, original window felts, rubbers, carpet, jack, steering wheel dash basically the entire interior is mint. The original drive train is there, crayon marks on the rear end. The build sheet is glued behind the glove box. I saw it this morning. The bad part is the paint is terrible. The son painted it Dukes of Hazard Orange and it is a crummy job. The original bumpers need to be rechromed, the original top is in ok shape. The trunk pan is ok. Probably will replace it when I paint the car. I did see one hole the size of dime. The car needs a little tune up work from sitting but it drives so well it's crazy. I was amazed. Anyway glad to be back on this board with a Charger and look forward to cruising the RT soon.
