Letters went out. Now FB is blowing up about how it isn't right, etc.

Just like Hagerty told me. Got Nitrous? You got no coverage.

Publically admit it's mostly set up/ faked, and the NHRA should be satisfied.

Should be an interesting dsicussion between the "actors" who just want to race, and shows producers who want to maintain the illusion to make money.

It would be easier for all if you started at the beginning of a sentence.

Do they NEED the licence to continue the show?

No. But, it might come in handy if they ever wanna test at the track...NHRA is just going about this all wrong and the low info public is just jumping on the bandwagon.

Why is it that NHRA want to pull it?

As stated above, they are breaking the rules...just like Hagerty told me about Nitrous and refusing to cover my Dart.

What rules? Who, when, where?

I thought it might be something like bringing the sport(drag racing) into disrepute  :scratchchin:

If you look at the way it its perceived on tv, it contradicts what NHRA was set up to do:  get street racers off the street, and on an organized race track.

I'm more annoyed at the municipality/police that sign off and provide security for filming.

To me, you should not enable a show that promotes racing on the street and then arrest/fine/impound cars of people doing the same thing.

Thats bovine excreta.

Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Chief said it best. When you street race, there's consequences. Losing our license is one of them. You break the rules of conduct that they clearly signed, you may lose your license.

Is it gonna stop a popular show? no. Will Any racers give two sh*ts? no. Could the NHRA  have handled it better? YES.

if the municipality and police are signing off on it, then its not illegal street racing and more than likely all sorts of safety precautions are taken (closed off streets, emergency personnel etc). Like running an IRL or F1 race on city streets (although obviously on a much, much smaller scale).

The problem may be that the show does not make that clear in the final product that is presented. A not so bright - and believe me, they make the majority - viewer would be like "oh cool...these guys are street racing and they get on tv. Im gonna do it too" and then go kill a minivan full of people.

EDIT: I misread your post when I first replied, but we seem to be saying the same thing.  :2thumbs:

Exactly what I'm saying. People will do enough dumb feces without it being encouraged on TV.

At least commercials showing less then responsible driving.....have a tiny reminder...."pro driver on closed course". It's not much, but it's there.

moparnation74

Ever pay attention to the shows opening intro? "Just because were dumbazzes doesn't mean you have to...".  Personally, I like the show and the entertainment.  Do I agree with street racing....no.  Have I done street racing...yes but that was a different time.  Back in the days when they didn't take your car away.  The NHRA is the same as a bad case of hemorrhoids!  Both are a pain in the azz.

I don't watch much TV, and I'm allergic to "reality" TV anyway......

Never street raced as such......but, I've done my share of dumb and dumber things when I was young.....they were more of a solo nature. And for the most part, didn't put anyone but myself at risk.

My problem is the hypocritical nature of the municipality/police......not with the show or actors.

If you are going to arrest/fine/impound cars for street racing, you should NOT enable a show promoting street racing. JMO....I'm a simple guy.

As for the NHRA, I don't race, so I'm not completely familiar with all the issues. What I understand so far, doesn't reflect well on the NHRA.

Actually, I like this show too - I watch every episode. But I also understand that it is 90% of it is scripted and controlled. Those "street races" on the perfectly lit quiet streets are without doubt are areas aside specifically for the theatrics. There is no way that the local OK police and government would allow this to happen.

I have not street raced for years, but recently took on a newer fanci-fied Mercedes in my 73 at a stop light. I was sure I would lose but surprisingly pulled him by a car length. I think this show is having a bad influence on me, but the influence sure felt good   :icon_smile_blackeye:

It's not street racing.... it's racing on the street.

People keep forgetting that. That's why they have cops, and lights and all that.  remember, it's racing on the street, not street racing.
JUNKTRAVELER: all I've seen in this thread is a bunch of bullies and 3 guys that actually give a crap.

Maybe the NHRA rightfully does not want to sanction or be associated with people who may end up in the news like this...

http://jalopnik.com/lapd-two-dead-one-injured-in-street-racing-crash-wit-1688242697

this happened about 10 mins away from where I live. It's a desolate industrial area (mostly body shops, porn warehouses, etc) that is fairly well known as a street racing spot.

in the paper a few days ago, "Fresno man sentenced for fatal DUI, street-racing crash."  Ten years worth. Killed his friend. Alcohol still making people bullet proof.

Street racing, car shops, porn studios.

I am SO visiting your neck of the woods...

Porn warehouse?  Wait a minute...why am I always the last to hear about these things!
