Crash testing back in the day, why did they choose this nice Charger...

JB400

It was probably a pre production assembly line test car.

Because crashing a different car would have been completely irrelevant to the test...
Daddy ran whiskey in a big black dodge
bought it at an auction at the masons lodge,
Johnson County Sherriff painted on the side,
just shot a coat of primer then he looked inside,
well him and my uncle tore that engine down,
I still remember that rumblin' sound.....

This was from an RV site, so I think they were testing the camper...

Mopar4me

Or was the camper used for data acquistion. Looks like their is a cable that is coiled up and then runs torwards the car. May the camper drove behind the car and collected data as it crashed?

TheAutoArchaeologist

Yeah, the Charger is the one that is about to be run into the wall.  The Travco is just the data acquisition vehicle.

StockMan

You may have a point there, I didn't notice that, but I suppose back then it would have been a hard wired connection.
Pretty thick cable!
I noticed the hub caps on the 70 Charger don't look familiar, maybe its the grainy image?

Ghoste

Looks like a fairly lengthy cable too.

Beyond the point of no return...

UFO

There's a video on utube with the above '69 being crashed.
A link is somewhere on this forum.

Nice, lets pic an RT to do some crash testing...

Ghoste

It's almost a surprise they did any crash testing at all in 69.

Actually that was AFTER the crash test....the 70 held up better than the 69 did  :nana:

Ghoste

With that enormous steel circle they glued on the front end it damned well should, what is that a snow plow?  ;)

Well I suppose there was some meaningful purpose behind the crash testing, not like the wasteful destruction by the dude boys.
300+ cars crash tested there...

Ghoste

That's a different one again in that video I think.  There is a fastback Charger in the section right before it too.
