Okay, those who know me are aware I like cars that are restored.  Not to say I don't also dabble in race cars or hot rods but with a trend toward the classic look.

That being said, I see so many classic cars, muscle cars, hot rods and the ever present fleet of suburban SUVs and Rice Rockets with wheels that would make a Conestoga wagon blush.  I under stand the performance concept of getting the side wall height of the tire shorter to improve cornering but give me a break!  When did a B-Body, that is a large as a whale by today's standards, look good with 22" of wheel and a rubber band for a tire?  How about a chopped and flamed 32 coupe with wheels the size of garbage can lids.  And don't get me started on Cadillac Escalades riding on wheels that spin, flash and have more chrome than a 52 Buick.  When I had my 68 Road Runner with 14" Steel rims and dog dish hubcaps my daughter and I went to Arbys for a sandwich and the guy at the drive up asked me what size wheels were on the car.  I told him and he said I needed to put some Jordans (24" wheels) on the car to make it happen.  Yeah right!  What would have happened was to turn a classic look into urban sh*t for a fashion craze.

Many fads have come and gone like the Pro Street look, the monochrome paint jobs, pro touring, fake blowers and pastel paint jobs.  Take a look back into some old car mags from the 70's and 80's and even into the 90's and look at the trends that were the "latest thing and here to stay" and it is pretty embarrassing what was around.  For the most part the classic looks from the 50's & 60's are what seem to last and look timeless because that is what we grew up on even you youngsters out there.

I know I will take some pipe for this but lets get a grip people and don't bow to some trend that makes your muscle car look like the Lunar Rover.

I think i can get away with 17" rims on the 68 but not any bigger.   But for now, since my cash flow is limited due to daycare, the 68's gonna get 15" steel rims of my donor New Yorker, painted body color, with dog dish hub caps that i already have....   I do kind of like these rims on this Road Runner.   Kind of lets you get away with both 17's and magnums....

You're prechin' to the choir Jet!  I think that most here would agree with you, including me!

In reality, I don't care what another person does with his/her car.  However, I would be awful upset if it was my wife sitting there nodding her head as Chip Foose "sells" her on some wagon wheels.  My thoughts last night as they showed the "one off" wheels on the '69 Roadrunner was, as soon as I got that car home and all the leaglities were taken car of with the folks at Overhaulin', I would snap some photos of the wheels and have them on e-bay!

Some 15" Magnum's or some painted steels with dog dish caps would look just fine on that car.

I call them "Schwinn rims" because they look like they came off a ten speed.

I have 15" and want to upgrade to 14".   I like the look of rubber tires.   Huge rims are like lowered pickup trucks, simply vulgar.

It's just a fad, though.  Once heterosexuality becomes trendy again, those rims will go away.
Matt. 14:8 (KJV) "And she, being before instructed of her mother, said, 'give me here John Baptist's head in a Charger.'"

It's a hip hop nation where it's all bling bling and a Rolie.  Once people start wearing their ball caps the right way and buying pants with a waist sized for them the world will be normal again.
The ricer like the rubber band tire look too though and they aren't going away yet.

My truck has 17" rims factory stock and they look good on it. Not to bling bling but they give some pretty good performace. Yeah it's not a Charger but I've seen these trucks with air bagged suspensions and 22" rims with like 1/4" of sidewall have fun pulling up to a curb in one of those.

Next time tell him that you got some Waltrips at home that're gonna set it OFF.  See if he has the balls to ask what number that would be. :2thumbs:

You're not going to get any flak from me.  14 or 15 inch wheels look just fine to me.
Probably 10 years from now the kiddies will all want 12 inchers

It's not a midlife crisis, it's my second adolescence.

Remember back in the early 90s everyone wanted 13x7 reverse offset.  I had my '84 Monte Carlo and told my friends if I ever got Daytons they'd be 15x8 with 235/60 raised white letter tires.  They thought it was blasphemous.  :D

Wheel and tire styles are probably one of the fastest changing whims in this hobby.  I want to know when clear taillamp lenses will go.

Probally when a minivan of kids get whacked because the semi did not see the brake lights and the legislators knee jerk them out of existence.

I couldn't agree more. We were just talking about this at the auto parts store the other day. There are a lot of like minded people out there. Those big freak wheels look stupid and all that rolling mass makes it much harder for the brakes to stop the car. I have a set of 15" Torque thrust 2's ready to go on my car when it's finished being painted.

Always one to stir the pot, so I'll say it, it I like a 17" rim. :icon_smile_big:

I don't give a flying f**k about bling, show, ego, or any of that fake B.S.

It's just that I'm going for more of a G.T. thing with my "69, so I want a little less sidewall.

More along the lines of what NYCMille did with his "68 performance wise.

There's no way in h*ll you'd get anything other than the 15x7s on my "70 though.

She's staying stock/factory all the way.

And you'd never see some spinning @$$, chromed out, flashing neon, hip hop culture, POS craptastic rims on anything I drive.

If it just for flash... it's goin' in the trash.
