Very cool.

I'll bet if they hit surrounding area with a metal detector they will find a belt buckle or button or something from the corpse that probably acccompanied the gun at one time.

That's a very cool story!

The reason nobody found it? ......GB National Park is in the middle of nowhere and is one of, if not THE least visited national parks! Something could be 100' off the road there and it may not be found for a thousand years.

it would be interesting to see if there was a path or pass nearby that someone was watching

most people wouldn't  "leave" their  rifle so the owner must be around somewhere  :scratchchin:

Reminds me of an old Twilight Zone episode where a western settler leaves his wagon train in search of medicine for his sick child and end up crossing a time boundary into the future. When he returns to his family back in the 19th century, he accidentally leaves his rifle behind, which is now rusted and cracked from being left out for decades.

I'm a member of a Hunting forum for British Columbia and you'd be surprised how many times old firearms are found. A hunter will get an animal and while dealing with the butchering and packing it out, leave their rifle behind. I found a shotgun one time in an old outhouse on an island one time.  :2thumbs:

If you keep your eyes open, they will find you.

My Winchester 1873 looks a little better. As with all old guns, and especially battle rifles, I've often wondered what/who it might have killed.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Absolutely a great find!
There is a really good article in the Nov. 2013 issue of the NRA publication "American Rifleman" that covers the 1873 Winchester. This gun has been re-issued but sadly is being manufactured in Japan by Miroku Corp. under license under Olin Corp. by FN/Browning.
When I heard they re-issued the 1873 I was going to buy one...until I found out they were made in Japan......
Originals were manufactured from 1873-1919 in the good ol' USA! :2thumbs: :patriot:

One benefit of "offshore" reproductions is the availability of parts; my pictured '73 has several repop parts that fit just like the originals.

I had a ML22 (copy of br22 browning ) and it was a great little gun that didn't miss a beat   :yesnod:

the Miroku replicas have been getting good reviews    ,don't see what the hang up is if the quality is way up there  :Twocents:
