Hi everyone,
First time poster, long time stalker. I just started my first restoration of a 68 charger and I've been buying parts from Classic Industries. I should say buying and returning from C I... Is anyone else disappointed in the quality of parts?
Some stuff does look nice but some not so much. Tried BE&A but can't get a return call. Year One was nice but pricy.  Where is everyone shopping from with good results? Thanks

Hi.

Welcome to the group. I'm sure others will respond with ideas on finding 2nd generation parts.

In general Year One does not have anything that is unique to them. If you see it offered by them the part is very likely to be offered by some place else often at a better price.

And for the most part the same could be said of Classic Industries.  Its a bit like trying to choose between Home Depot and Lowes.  BEA have some very nice parts.

You have to be careful no matter where you buy.  That is why we are all here. To share experiences in the hobby. I've gotten some good and some bad from the same place from time to time.  Some places will be honest and say "we carry it because folks are looking for it but the quality is not great".
I've had issues with resto places and others have had a great experience.  Depends on what it is I guess.   :shruggy:

being around here since 2003 ( with the old board ) and we have being wondering about that since those years and mostly sure way before that too.

we can say things are becoming better for some stuff like sheetmetal, but not to all generations yet. MP began to make some emblems maybe 5 or 6 years ago... before that we got nothing about that. Rest of parts are being changing around the years. Some times they float on then dissapear, then float on again ( vacuum lines for hideaways for example ).

Some shops are long gone now ( Paddock ) some other were gone and came back ( Laysons )... some news began to be on Mopar parts family after some years ( Classic Industries, NPDlink ), and some other are "new" ( BE&A ). PG Classic and Firestone Collectibles ( some others too ) has growing up with us. Some dealers have being growing up as far China entered on Mopar stuff ( LOL ). Year One was way better on Mopar stock around 8 years ago ( but always expensive specially on shipping and not allways the best parts )

lot of sellers more! AND ALSO LOT STORIES TO TELL !

SOMETIMES IS BETTER USED AND RESTORE THAN NEW REPRO!!!

So the best we can say, and quoting Odz... thats why we are here and STAY TUNED... patiente and save money for the parts ( but patiente for the right parts )

Its not so much who you buy it from... Repo parts suck, nothing is as good as the original stuff. Now I use repo only if my part is unrestorable or too trashed out to use. I have said this before, and I will say it again, Me personally, I would rather have a flawed original part instead of a shiny new repo.

Good quality parts, great shipping rates and excellent customer service. :2thumbs:

I agree as some stated above, either use an original part with a blemish or restore the original parts.  Only buy new what you absolutely have to get.

I've had good luck with Charger Specialties. Dante's has been a pretty fare place. But I haven't made any purchases from either of them in awhile.
Still looking for 15x7 Appliance slotted mags.....

I have ordered from Megaparts several times without any complaint until I ordered the tail panel emblem and they were less than professional when I complained the mounting studs were not level.  I now would only use them if they were the only ones carrying the item I needed.

The repro industry doesn't make it as good as original, and it still wouldn't be that good even if they did.

If you see a 45yo car with pleasing fit & finish by modern standards then you are seeing a hand-done restoration.   These cars were known to come from the factory with leaking windshield seals, whistling/rattling doors, semi-glossy paint with visible runs, panel gaps could be 1/4" different from side to side, the machining tolerances could produce two of the same engines 5-10 cubic inches different from each other, etc.

Thanks guys... I'm definitely going to try to stick with original parts.

Nacho-RT74

YES AS FAR IS POSIBLE AND RELIABLE, GO FOR USED DECENT OR RESTORABLE PARTS.

Sorry the caps
