They pop up from time to time on here or other mopar forums for sale or enay once in awhile. They are never cheap though. I have had on on my 70' Charger and I am glad I have it. Several times at cruise nights or car shows over the years I come back to my car & the cap is popped & standing straight up with no-one around. I don't know if people just get a kick out of it & like to pop it open or what???? At least no one can drop anyything down in my tank with the locking gas cap.

The Layson's parts aren't "correct" - but they're better than nothing and you can actually get them without donating a kidney. Since no one can really see the part, "correctness" isn't really all that important.

I purchased two of these caps years ago but I wouldn't give them a dime of my money at this point (reasons unrelated to locking gas caps).

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

Do you have to modify your gas lid if you install the locking insert??? i would really like to have one of these myself and didn't know they were reproducing them!! Nothing on my car correct anyway just as long as it works good.  :yesnod:

The early 68 locking caps had a different flip top but nearly all of the ones made for 2nd gens do not need anything but the regular cap.

:iagree: :iagree: :iagree: Their prices way too high. Example $29.00 for a filler neck to tank grommet WTF!

I thought about getting one of those but am still debating pros and cons.  I don't know if I need to worry about people popping the gas cap and pouring sugar in the tank (does this still happen at all?).  But I am worried I will put the locking cap and key on the pump and then drive off without putting it back.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

Is Laysons part RD-25881 and doesn't look that bad to me.

Aesthetically the cap itself isnt too bad.  Its the key & cylinder thats different.

This is the key for the correct cap....one sided

The Layson Lock works fine, as said the key is completely different as Chris posted. But I also searched around for a spare key
for there locks, and no lock smith can find one. Dave Layson told me there made in house......  his employees told me that was BS
I was not surprised.

Has anyone found one of these keys?

The one other difference between the locks is, the factory unit has the key hole cover on it that goes out of the way when using the key.
The re pop unit has no cover, so anything can get down in the lock, is this a problem? probably not.

Got one at a garage sale a couple of years ago.

When/if gas spikes up again the lock pays for itself quickly although you won't know it. That big tempting quick clip fuel cap screams 20 gallons of premium waiting to be stolen! Prior to getting one (Over many years.) several times I could have sworn I had more fuel in the tank than what it read? Has not happened since locking. The right size hose can be inserted deeply in the tank an if pulled out quickly will start to siphon just by holding your thumb over the end once the hose is all the way in.  I've drained my tank several times that way for servicing, put the hose in, put your thumb over the end, yank the hose out, let your thumb off and stick the hose in a gas can.

I'm more worried about some rapper stealing the gas cap so he can wear the big shiny bling thing yo I stoled from dat car dog on a chain around his neck.  (but I don't think they do that anymore do they?)
