they can ask for whatever they want, but wont get it  :icon_smile_big: I have my car for sale right now for 65k, NO BITES!!!  I get emails saying its a ugly old car and they will give me 500 bucks for it.  I always reply I will think about it and counter offer at 400 bucks.  :2thumbs:

myk

Again these people aren't serious about selling.  They're either showing off to their friends by saying "oh yeah, my car is listed for blah blah blah", or they're trying to keep their nagging wives off of their backs by saying " see honey, I'm trying to sell the car but no bites!"  Someone serious to sell would know the market and list their car accordingly, unless they're on some kind of acid trip or something.  Wouldn't you do the same?

Ghoste

I think its people who overbought then trying to get from under the car. :shruggy:

A very nice car but yeah 75 large is a fishing trip.  These cars tend to be at dealers too though.

Mytur Binsdirti

When I see things like the painted over dash & VIN tag and a radiator that looks like it's painted with plastidip, it makes me wonder what the rest of the car looks like up close.

Fortunately, for me I already own both a first and second generation Charger both purchased in 1980's dollars (not in 2014 401k dollars).  I still find it very difficult to wrap my head around the prices people are asking for these cars.  I guess I am living in the "Wonder Years" when most of these cars could be found on the back row of used car lots (and yes I found more than one Hemi car parked there).    Today's high profile auto auctions have given every owner the idea his car is a "collector" car and worth its weight in gold.  Never mind that he is comparing his 318 base model to a fully loaded Hemi car...after all they look alike, so they must be worth about the same..... :shruggy:

My thoughts exactly.

$25k today IS a much lower price than $25k in 2005.  Inflation practically cuts the value in half over 10 years.

Besides, lots of people just throw up an ad periodically hoping for that unusually high bite.

charger_fan_4ever

My 70 R/t as it sits on the rotisserie with all the metal work done new interior in storage with new bumpers ect ect i have about $25k tied up in it including purchase price and lotsss of AMD metal lol. I figure if i can get out of it for 40k or less i will be doing alright. Building it the way i want it so not like im looking to flip it and do it 100% correct. Would i be able to get the $$ out of it once done ? Who knows but no intent. Only way i'd get rid of it would be for a troy trade on a C500.

Aero426

No power steering and manual brakes would kind of suck.

Yeah, the painted over VIN and the trunk floor welded up the middle don't exactly say "top shelf".

As to the prices, we have enjoyed some lower prices the last few years.    The market seems to be taking back off again.     Some high end cars have surpassed 2005 prices, or will do so in the next few weeks as the auction circuit revs up.   That will drag some of the lower quality cars with them.

ACUDANUT

That Blue 68 has some serious rust in the rear window/top. 2,500 maybe.

500Jon

In 2025 maybe?

I bought a restored 69 R/T Charger from a dealer in 1990 for $7500 (£5000).
(It was nearly double that three years earlier before the late 80's recession).
At the doubling every ten years rate, we are looking at $60,000 in 2020?

Can't see it myself, maybe if its a SE or got a hemi in there?
That's C500 money, just about!!!

O-yeah and its RED!
B5 blue and its worth $55,000 tops... :shruggy:

I can't see ever selling mine. Unless it's stupid money. I wouldn't have sold any of the mopars I've had if I'd known. Also once you sell its really hard to get back in.

moparchris

At a certain point, people are going to start to factor in how much enjoyment their money is buying them.  Are they interested in bragging to their friends how much they spent (or have to spend) or are they interested in what driving value they get for their money?  It's getting harder to defend spending 65-75 large for a car that runs the 1/4 in 13.5-14.5 seconds stops just above average, has no A/C and gets 12 MPG when you can go get a new(er) car that runs 12's or lower, has a 5 million watt stereo, has A/C, nice seats for our ever expanding asses and has a warranty.
Just my two cents.. and yes I DEARLY love the old cars, but at a certain point you gotta start to ask......
