I recently purchased a 1971 Roadrunner and the guy included a 440/727 from a motorhome. I was thinking about putting these into the roadrunner, but of course the 727 has the short tailshaft. I was thinking about using a gearvendors over/underdrive unit anyway. I know they have kits for the short tailshaft so that would lengthen it a bit. Making it about as long as the 727 long tailshaft version. I am sure the trans crossmember will not line up correctly, but I figure I can make something work. Has anyone used this transmission in their car? Are the internals identical to the long tailshaft, besides the shaft and housing? Are they comparable in strength? Will the motorhome torque convertor work with this car or will the stall be wrong? I appreciate any assistance or knowledge you can provide.

The internals of the BB motorhome 727 are comparable to that found in a HP car 727 on a year-for-year basis. The converter usability would depend on the year and whether cast or forged crank.

Look for the part number stamped in the pan rail on the drivers side.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.
