does anybody know what kind of oil is need for a new a/c compressor? Its a rock auto compressor - reman from four seasons.....

and how much

I read thru the manual, i couldnt find where it said type, but i think it said 6-8 ounces

any help would be great to help me finish this project up

no where on rock auto or in the directions does it say type of oil or amount

fyi, i will not be using the air conditioner at all, I just need the oil to keep the compressor from seizing up like my last one did

PlainfieldCharger

I think the oil used depends on the Freon used.  :scratchchin:

The factory fill for a new compressor and empty system is 10 to 11 oz. of oil. Since some of that oil gets carried around the system you should find about 8 oz. left in the compressor. Since you will not be using the A/C system ,I would fill the new compressor with 8 oz. of oil. The oil type does depend on what type of refrigerant is used. The original oil for R-12 is 525 wax free mineral oil for A/C systems. I suggested in your other A/C thread you use an ester based oil like BVA 100 which would be compatible with either R-12 or the newer R-134A should you want to get the A/C working again at some point.
