ok, I am not a tech guy, have a really old flip phone, with me so far?  I am trying to help my Dad get his Dish/ tv on.  It goes off 4-5 times a day, then he has to reset/restart it.  I have been trying over an hour just to get it on. The one remote starts (turns on) the dish, you use the source of AV and then it runs through start up. I cannot get anything, the screen (almost new flatscreen) glows black, no piture of any kind, I had a pic with the Dish start up screen around 7. No wires have been touched.  And don't tell me to call dish, ther don't belive in live people to answer the phone (and therefore should be out of business (I want them to go to hell!)) Anyone know of something I'm missing?

I got dish.  This happens about once a year.

Just,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,call dish.   They will walk you through everything you've already done and then ship you out a new receiver.

Thanks, will try tomorrow night.  Making that call, again, will almost kill me I'm sure.  Want a laugh?  After the TV problem, I went back to my computer, it seems like it's slow, maybe a virus.  So, after listening to a college kid I work with, I deleted all my Norton anti spy/virus/security. He hold me to install Microsoft Security essentials, hell it's free. So I went to download,  But they no longer support windows XP so now I got nothing. And to push me right off the edge, my old flip phone does not hold a charge long, and started beepin that it's out of juice too. I "like" my computer, kinda cool to have lots of channels on TV, but it's never simple anymore, I have no time for all this.. My answer "Bring back the rotary! " (phone)

I'm very close to taking the dish down off of the house and throwing it away. :hack:

$80+ a month.  :o

200+ Channels.  ::)

I watch 5 of them... :eek2:

Maybe.

The internet will be the next to go...

I spend WAY too much time on it. :brickwall:

Then...

I'll take great joy in throwing that damned cell phone in the lake.  :slap:

Bummer you're having trouble with Dish. I've had it for about 15 or 16 years & the service has been decent & so much better than Time Warner which I had prior. When I've had to call there usually hasn't been a long wait & I hardly ever need to call. One thing I have done is remove the smart card behind the small access cover, wait 10 seconds or so & put it back so it resets. I did have a bad card once & they sent a new one. I also had a 10 year old analog receiver that I purchased & owned outright that they replaced for free when they told me I needed a newer model.

Not sure if Direct TV has better service than Dish, but the CATV companies I've had over the years absolutely suck. They include Cablevision, Paragon & Time Warner. One reason I did go with Dish was Time Warner owned a huge portion of Direct TV at the time & I was trying to get away from them as fast & as far as I could. Rates were going up all the time & the service died when a pigeon sitting on the wire farted.  ::)

that's what is happening to us here with Comcast (Xfinity) Cable we have

wingcar

Cable and Satellite is on the way out, it's only a matter of time.  Many of us are tried of paying huge bills for stations that we don't need, want, or even watch.  And, if you want something special like NASCAR or such you need to upgrade...... :brickwall:  I just went to basic, and find that I watch less TV and don't miss it.
