Just thought I would ask how many of you have dogs bark at them when they drive by.  I live in a pretty quiet neighborhood and many times when I drive my charger by neighbors out walking their dog and getting some fresh air, the dog will turn and bark at the car.  Doesn't seem to happen with my other car. :scratchchin:

Science is just observation and hypothesis.  Policy stands in the way.........

Or maybe it protects us.

I suppose it depends on the specific case.....

Maybe exhaust sound/ note/ tone?   High pitched whistling from carb only they hear?    I bet that's possible.

The charger looks rather different than everything else on the road today.  Maybe the dog likes it? :yesnod:  Or It could be he is a (for example) chevy dog. :shruggy:

You see that sometimes with breeds that are territorial.  For example, I have a Cairn terrier.  She despises the UPS/Fedex/DHL or similar loud vehicles(bikes, classics etc)  Why?  Well they come to the door of the house, ring the bell and leave.  So no interaction.  Territorial dogs expect respect on their property and also to be greeted.  Through time this builds up in them and they inculcate these sounds.  So when I walk my dog and these sounds come by she barks/attacks.  In the end she saying, "Stop coming to my damn house ringing my door bell and leaving without saying hello."

Thanks for that post.  It explains some questions I have had for a long time and makes sense.
How cool it would be to be able to better understand what our pets/family members feel and think. Maybe a translator of sorts is nearby. :shruggy:

Nooooo they are man's best friend becuase we have no clue what they're saying.  Once they have a voice we have another opinion to fight!

My neighbors dogs just bark.....constantly......the slightest noise.....movement.......if a squirrel farts 5 miles away...they let you know.  :rotz:   Got them left, right, front and back, they are barking right now.  :-\

Don't panic---they know how easy they have it in life.  Who would not lick the face of one that provides everything. :P

No panic here.  (and that youtube is sick).  My honest opinion is that they are no longer used to these cars and the lope is enough to set them off.  I think they think they are protecting their owners from the car.....

I am usually trying to keep the car quiet so clutch in as I roll by, but the effect appears to be just the opposite for the dogs.

My neighbor has two big black labs.

Dumb as owl shit.

They used to spend several hours every day barking at my burning barrel. ::)

So...

I moved it.

Now...

They bark at my garage.  :brickwall:

A good way to get them to stop barking is to throw them some raw hamburger meatballs with about 1/2 a sleeping pill ground up in them, works every time. Then the dogs will associate you with food and contentment(as in sleep) Dogs just love to chase me on my Harley, so I slow down just enough that they can't catch me, but they think they are gaining and take 'em on a nice run until they tire out, usually 2 miles or so down the road. Makes for a long trek back home for them when they're burned out from running! LOL  :smilielol:

I know a dog that used to chase the cars down a gravel road in front of his house.  He'd sit behind the bushes, and wait until said vehicle drove by, then proceed to chase them.  One day when we was going by this house, we stopped.  The disappointed look on that dog's face was funny.  Another time, we stopped about 100 ft. short of the bushes.  That dog stuck his head out and looked at us, just waiting for us to drive by.  We just let the truck coast by, to where it wasn't any fun for him to chase us.  After a couple more times of just toying with him, he quit chasing us.

This is exactly correct. We had a meter reader that had a leather strap with bells on it that she wore every day while walking her routes. The dogs on her routs would get use to her coming by now and then and most were ok with her. One time while she was on vacation they had some older guy with no bells on our route. While my yellow lab was outside doing his business, the guy opened the gate and BOTH were startled. Merlin pinched while going after the intruder and the intruder pulled the gate shut so hard that he mangled the 3/4" tube  steel latching bar.

I know that all routs had a list of homes with bad dogs, but the woman introduced herself to our dogs and brought them treats... While she was giving them treats she was jingling the bells so they knew her sound....  What is incredible about that day is the fact that we had 3 signs posted on the walk in gate and the double wide gates saying we had watch dogs and a pic. of a Shepard that said: I CAN REACH THE FENCE IN 3 SECONDS. CAN YOU?? And the guy just swung the gate open like he owned the place....   Moron....  :brickwall:

You guys have some ideas as to why the dogs bark at the cars, but one thing you all over looked.. an I'm surprise no one at all even thought about it. How many of you have ever watch your dogs growl at something? Hear what it sounds like? Maybe the dog/s hear your v8s rumble sound an think it's a animal growling at them as it goes by, in return they bark back at it. Or maybe the car engine rumble sounds like there language and they are trying to speak back to it. I know it sounds down right crazy, but those could be the reason's.  :shruggy:

having had a few "chasers" and a few "sit back and watch"  dogs I think its a lot down to the breed   :yesnod:

and despite the fact that the chasee's  don't enjoy it,  it is obvious that they ( dogs) are  having fun     :yesnod:

had an old fashioned bull terrier  back in the day that grabbed bike tyres, had his head ran over hundreds of times ( I think he thought it was part of the game)

My dog doesn't like the vacuum sweeper or even the silent hokey lol, barks at me sweeping sometimes too. I can be in the garage though and ignores power tools and the air compressor. It doesn't matter to my dog how the vehicle sounds it's about when a person comes up do they have on a uniform or not.
