Not a SW follower?  Okay here's the scoop - George Lucas sold the whole thing to Disney two years ago.  Now Disney is doing a new trilogy, trying to do a better job than the prequels and make SW cool again.  Episodes 7/8/9 are in the works using the original Han/Luke/Leia actors.  They hired the director from the most recent "Star Trek" movies.

This teaser is the first glimpse of Ep#7.

My oldest son is expecting Disney to screw it up.

They cancelled the Clone Wars animated series (which was awesome) and trotted out a Star Wars - Rebels cartoon that blows chunks.  :puke:

They won't screw it up.

(Screw it up compared to what, the prequels?!?)

Disney wants money and they are planning the SW franchise long-term.  At this point the smartest thing to do financially is to come flying out of the gate with the best new movie trilogy they can make.  They can cut corners on the TV shows or whatever but the theatrical trilogy is the tentpole product.  It has to be good and they know it.

They hired Kathleen Kennedy, Lawrence Kasdan, JJ Abrams, etc.  The list reads like attempt to do the movies as well as they can.  Word in the grapevine is they actually pitched the job at Spielberg first but he turned it down.

Bring back the guy who did Empire, still the best one imo.

I look forward to seeing this, but the new lightsaber is ridiculous.  There, I  said it.

Agree on the lightsaber.  But while we're at it, the sword itself is ridiculous for such an advanced bunch of people.

(Yes I know the stated reasons for it, and it's all basically just excuses dreamed up after the fact.  George Lucas wanted laser swords because they looked cool and fit the mythology ideas.)

The guy who wrote Empire was Lawrence Kasdan.  They DO have him this time.

The guy who directed Empire would have to come back as one of those glowing blue ghosts today, unfortunately.

I'm glad he did it because of the cool factor because most of the planet would agree with that.   :2thumbs:

Yay!

Aww damn, that's a shame.

I don't mind the hand guards on the saber. Not sure what all the hoopla is about, it's basically the shape of a broadsword instead of a katana.

The thing I thought was odd though was that lady riding a giant fudgesicle.

I also don't get why people are freaking out over the new Stormtrooper. (I will sidestep the discussion that a lot of those people may or may not be freaking out because it's a black guy)

The argument is that the Stormtroopers were clones of Jango Fett and this is a different guy. My possible explanation is that, since E7 takes place after the original trilogy and even longer after the prequels (where the Jango Fett thing came from), its entirely possible that at some point between the events of the prequel and E7, the empire Stormtrooper factory ran a new line of troopers off the new guy.

That being said, Im out of the loop out of the Clone Wars and the like, so I dont know what is canon or what isnt anymore. '

Or, maybe he is in disguise (luke and han in episode 4) and lost his helmet, he looked like he was running away from something, could be a main character  :shruggy:

If i recall, according to the books, after clone wars the empire stopped making clones and the stormtroopers were more of a traditional army soldier, recruited and trained.

Mike DC

"During the clone wars" always sounded to me like that was a temporary situation.  Like clone troopers were developed, they immediately unbalanced the power & caused some wars, and then something rebalanced that power again.  Maybe somebody found a weakness in clone troops that regular soldiers didn't have.  Or maybe they wrote treaties banning growing clones, like we do with nuclear weapons on earth.
