How I hurt my wrist changing oil

I really screwed my wrist up changing the oil in my truck. First I am fat old and lazy so once under the truck I did not want to get up again. I just pulled the plug and went after the oil filter. I never put the filters on too tight so I did not take the wrench when I went under. I try to buy the filters with the grippy stuff on them. Well this one would not budge. So instead of getting the wrench I figured I would give it one last twist. My arm is extended so I am applying a torsional force to my wrist. Bad idea guys I felt a snap pop and then the pain started. I had to one hand it the rest of the job. Hurt real bad I could not open a door or turn the key to my truck. This was a week ago and it is felling better but still hurts when i start twisting. I looked up what I could have done and the wrist is pretty complex. Looks like I may have done something to the triple something something. It is getting better but not great If it still hurts next week I may go see the doctor.

AW CRAP! Sorry to hear Dave, my Cherokee gave me fits last time! Thanks for reminding me, my filter wrench is in the "where did I put that zone" and must be replaced! (And used next time!)

Dino

I'd go see the doc.  I used to work in ortho.  You may have snapped a tendon there so it's good to know if it requires further intervention or not.  If you have good insurance then they will likely prescribe you a wrist brace.  If insurance doesn't cover those, they sell them for around $30 but you need to hear from the doc which type you need.  Got any swelling and/or redness going on?
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

No swelling or redness. I do not think (hope) I snapped a tendon. Pain and mobility is getting better. I will just need to take it easy.
Thanks Dave

I prescribe 12oz lifting exercises. Try to use something very cold as well so that you can apply it to the wrist between lifts.

If you need help, invite a friend or two.

Dave,

RallyeMike offers great advice as does Dino especially.

You already know this "old farts rule" trick. Use your
belt as a wrench.

Sorry to hear this, hopefully you get well soon.
I usually don't tighten them very hard, put oil on gasket-they come off way easier, no need for filter wrench.

Geez, put some oil on the gasket surface the tighten the filter by hand then a 1/4 turn with the wrench. Always easy to get off this way. But seriously, you need to get yourself to a doctor and get X-rays for a proper diagnosis. I knew someone who snapped one of the bones in his wrist scooping ice cream at baskin-robbins. If you are fat that probably means you substitute beer for milk in your diet. So you are calcium deficient (weak bones) are your fingernails thin? Dead give away you are calcium deficient, white spots on your fingernails means too much calcium.
You don't want a bone marrow infection and have to spend weeks in the hospital do you? But, if you're fat and lazy that may sound good to you.......but then You'll have to sell your cars to pay your hospital bills and after that you'll have to work more to get your cars back or buy other ones which won't allow you to be as lazy. This could turn into a vicious cycle for you, get under a doctors care before it's too late! What happens if you get gangrene and you lose an arm? Then you won't be able to eat with both hands, how are you gonna eat corn on the cob then? How are you gonna hold a beer bottle in one hand and a chicken wing in the other? Don't self diagnose and take chances, it ain't worth it!
