Like a year ago Discovery channel did basically a mockumetary on Megaladons being sighted today.  It was one of those things where they spent an hour presenting it as real, after running a 20-second disclaimer at the beginning saying it's not.




Having said that, IMO there does seem to be indirect evidence of sharks larger than anything we've documented before.  Maybe not megaladons but perhaps 25-30ft whites.  

The "Jaws" mechanical shark body (Spielberg named it Bruce, after his lawyer) was 25ft long.  But the sculptor actually took a 12.5ft shark and scaled it up double sized, so Bruce's face/mouth size would still be a bit too large in proportion for a 25-footer.

I'm a scaredy cat with a lot of respect for them. 

(Went to WA a few years back and there was a bad time with the white pointers.  My family and I decided to go north to give them a miss and on our first trip in the water swam over a pretty big tiger shark.  It was 20-30 foot down, but looked big, maybe 9-12 foot long. That wasn't our last time in, but I still think about it.

The other stuff is part of the Discovery channel's fake documentary.  It's pretty unlikely that Megs could be alive today.

yeah , forgot to mention that in my above post , I try to watch any  documentary on the oceans & deep sea stuff  , saw one some time ago ,  about the Mariana trench  , &  the scientist  spoke about  , we know more about outer space , solar system  etc , than whats in our oceans

was definitely a white shark    there were several expert witnesses   and as stated earlier we do grow some whoppers down here

          look up bob dyer's records for white and tiger sharks back in the 50's 60's some of the whites were 20+ feet

Bull sharks are the biggest worry over here.  They've been found at least as far as St. Louis, but I think there have been a report of two of them being spotted in the middle of Il.

  yeah we have them as well as tigers   ,just lucky I guess        makes you think twice before jumping in the water, I'll stick to the rivers up in the mountains or a swimming pool

Afraid of what a shark can do, sure.  Outside of that I have a profound admiration for a creature that has evolved into a near perfect organism.  It lives to swim, eat and be a predator of all sea creatures and it does those things flawlessly; like a Charger of the seas, if you will...

Have to admit that sharks bother me enough that I no longer swim in the ocean, never cared until saw jaws when it was first released, and that didn't scare me off, was living in Washington DC then, I moved to Pensacola FL the following year where they filmed scenes for Jaws II, and they had the robot shark parked outside the motel at the beach, that didn't bother me either, that summer spent hours and hours body surfing on Pcola Beach, then 2nd year there was swimming near the pier at a church outing and found out a world record Bull Shark was caught in the surf right where I was swimming two hours before.  That bothered me.  Then got to see some pics from a Helicopter taking pics of the surf and realized how many LARGE sharks feed in the waters near swimmers there, ever since I've stayed clear of water deeper than chest deep.  Several people have been mauled by Bull Sharks over the years, but its still rare even though sharks are always present with hundreds of swimmers. 
Moved to Jacksonville after my time in the military, never really enjoyed swimming at the beach here in Jacksonville, the water is a lot colder than it is in the Gulf of Mexico, the sand is dirty looking and packed hard like asphalt -people actually drive on the sand here, can't do that in Pensacola, you get stuck in sand there just running off the road with one tire.  Recently found out that Great Whites frequently swim up and down our beach area as part of the eastern US migratory path for large great whites.  (they tracked an 18 footer up and down the east coast and she was tracked repeatedly off our shores.)  Won't be going swimming anytime soon again.  After getting several biopsy tests for skin cancer I pretty much stay out of direct sunlight most of the time now.
