It's just the car running in my driveway. One was after I drove it for a few while the other is the cold start after sitting for a few days.  I shut down the choke too soon and it took a minute to get it running again.  It sounded like crap and smoked like hell and it's all on tape!

It was around 25 degrees out, damn am I glad I got the heater working.   :yesnod:

Not bad for the old girl huh?    :icon_smile_big:

It idles a bit rought with that one dripping venturi but I'll get that fixed.  I still don't know what cam is in there, supposedly a 280/474 purple cam.  Does that 'sound' about right?  My tablet doesn't really capture the sound very well but it's the best I have.

2 more weeks and it's going into storage until that white stuff is gone...dammit.

Nice vids, sounds good.

This is further reason I'd like to do a F.A.S.T. EFI setup eventually.

Nice, I have always wished there was a bigger Mopar based YouTube community...

That sounds about ballpark for the cam size...I'm basing that on it sounding a step up from a 268 MP grind and not quite like the 284/484s I have heard.  Hard to say over video and without knowing the variables, but I think it is a good ballpark.

A video very much like yours started me down the path to Charger ownership about 20-years ago now. From the sound of that unmistakable gear-reduction starter to the deep burble of the exhaust note, everything about watching that video reminded me of so-many muscle car events that began with those simple and yet wonderful sounds. If you were growing up in the time-frame of the 60s and 70s, those were signature sights and sounds that began many an adventure (misadventure?).  FWIW: my video came through the mail, on a VCR tape, and I played it through my stereo to get the full effect. I hate to think of all the time and money that tape cost me over the years, but I'd say the fun of ownership balanced it out fairly well. I probably still have it somewhere.  The definition of nostalgia is "whatever was cool when you were 16" and that certainly applies here.

Are those solar panels of some type on your house?

Dino

Yes, it's an old solar collector.  A big fan behind the black metal siding, covered in singe pane glass, collects the hot air and sends it through to the living room.  It's remarkably efficient but will only heat a single room.  Still, it's free and cuts down the heating bill a bit.

Nicely put Lloyd and very true.  When I do a cam swap net year I will probably miss this sound, but driveability is more important and I think it'll still sound good with this cam:  http://www.crower.com/camshafts/mopar-dodge-chrysler/mopar-350-440-b-compu-pro-hydraulic-cam-260-hdp.html

Unfortunately I don't know a ton about the engine as the previous owner no longer has any paperwork  He believes that it has TRW pistons with a compression range around 10:1.  It has an Edelbrock Performer intake manifold and a non smogger TQ.  I have a nice Performer 1406 that I will try with the new cam.  It also has unknown brand headers but since they don't interfere with anything they are staying on.  I recently installed a Firecore rtr system and did some serious electrical upgrades.

I need to measure the compression to see what it really is.  With the carb acting the way it does it runs less than optimal at lower rpm but runs real nice on the highway.  The current gears behind the 727 are 2.96 which are more like 2.76 with my taller tires.  I may stick the 3.55's back in but would rather find some 3.23's.

Future plans are to install a T-56 with 3.55's and multi port fuel injection but that will have to wait as I'm too busy with school.  Besides, school is eating my car funds.   :icon_smile_big:

Is that normal how you  have that cold start?

I'm not sure what normal is supposed to be.  I've only had the choke for a little while and haven't figured out the ideal procedure yet.  I pump the gas once to set the choke and fire it up.  Initially it takes a while for the carb to fill if it sits more than a few days.  I noticed early on that when I tapped the gas the fast idle disengages but rpm stays high enough for it to run, that didn't happen this time.  I have no clue why it had such a hard time starting when it died.  Once it's warm it starts up right away, as in the other video.  Ever since I have the choke, the idle seems too low as well.  I have to pop the car in neutral when coming to a stop or it'll die.  I need to do this until it's nice and hot.  Next time I go to see the car I'll turn up the idle a bit.

Ghoste

How long do you let it warm up?  We used to let our cars warm before taking off but with computer controlled efi I think we've gotten used to fire it up and drive off.

Dino

Not long, what you see in the video is the car firing up after sitting for days so you can see exactly how long I waited before I flipped the choke off. Because it has a strong fuel smell I always push it out of the garage and close the door before starting it.  When I took it to the storage unit yesterday I started it and let it sit for a minute or two.  It stalled once at the light but fired right back up.  Without the choke it was much harder to start but it wouldn't stall on me which I thought was odd.

In any case, I never wait long enough to see the temp gauge move.  That only creeps up when I'm driving so I should probably wait longer.

The modern fuels don't help us either.

Hey your brake lights are working lol.

Just busting your chops

Dino

Ha!  Yeah except for one of the back up lights and the a/c that gets chilly but not very cold, everything on the old beast works.  Next summer I'll do the cam and carb swap and maybe a rear end gear change and hopefully get it running again as it should.   :yesnod:

True Ghoste, these fuels are not helping.  I probably would have had this issue before but I used to drive the car 7 days a week so it never had the time to evaporate the fuel into oblivion.  These days I'm lucky to get it out once or twice a week.

And I think the winter formulation is even worse isn't it?

Dino

That's what I heard as well but can't confirm it.
