My shell of a charger is sitting in my garage for the winter, should I put it up on jack stands to avoid flat spots on the new tires?
If so where in the front should jack stands go? Under the lower control arms? What about the rear? Under the axle towards the wheels?

yeap , how I do mine ,   becareful when , putting jack stands under the rear axle , because of the rear brake lines  :yesnod:

Shakey

Whenever I had mine on stands I always put them under the frame rails.  Front stands would be under the bolt that holds the K-frame in place and the rears would be just ahead of the rear wheels.

Sweet, just the question I was going to type into the old search box!

Thanks guys!!!

Over the many years I've stored cars, I've never had them off the ground and never had a problem except for a single year where I developed a flat spot on a single tire. I should start storing them off the ground though.  :slap:

Just yesterday mine was put up as Shakey suggested.     Great minds.....I guess.   ;)

The reasoning on supporting by the frame is to give the suspension a break......maybe get those mexican leafs to not sag as much.  (mine not Shakey's.  I think he splurged for Eatons)

Up front about 1/2 the weight is on the stands, periodically this winter I'll spin the tires a little.

Thanks for the tips and the complements!

The material properties of tires does not allow them to develop permanent flat spots.

Having said that, I prefer to store on jack stands.  :2thumbs:

Fwiw, most of the racers store their cars on stand letting the suspension hang.

interesting   :scratchchin:  , letting the suspension hang ,  have always thought letting the suspension hang for long periods of time , put stress on the bushings etc  not a good idea  :yesnod: :shruggy: :popcrn:
sort of a similar thing to , when torqueing up suspension nuts & bolts , it needs to be done with weight on the wheels  :yesnod:

Yeah, me too.  My definition of getting the rubber off the ground is putting it on dollies.

It wasn't so much flat spots' that worried me in the past as it was worrying about a fire & having to get it out.  As I've aged the cars' mean less I guess?   :shruggy:  My rig's not so rare that I should worry.  It can be replaced.

It has to be the wheelchair.  :-\

Dino

I keep my tires on the ground, much easier to drive it around the storage place that way.   :icon_smile_big:

Precisely what my concern is with regards to storing the car on stands.  I read here not to long ago about the concern for fire and trying to get the car out of the garage to save it.

For me, my car will spend its first winter (since completion) in my garage at home, not on stands.  It is plated and insured all year long and if I have the opportunity to drive it this winter (i.e.: sun shining, dry roads) I will.

Yes, I know I am in Canada but there have been winters where we have not seen snow until the middle of January.  Rare yes, but possible.

Don't forget to coat the entire car in grease so that mice can't climb in.

1973rallye

Likewise, no stands for me, both are plated year round. As Shakey says, as long as no snow they will get out. Coincidentally,  they sat last winter for 5 months in a heated  garage and no flat spots on BFG's.

I tend to never put mine on stands either.  I have one or two winters but most of my cars stay on the rubber and I try to move them a bit in the winter and keep everything working.
Are flat spots as big a concern for radial tires over bias plies?  Or vice verse for that matter?

A383Wing

I have never had problems with radials, bias ply do take a set, but not many people run those anymore
