Door window seals/wipers

A car painter told me that I had to remove the seals/wipers that rub along the door windows (see pictures).
With some difficulties, I managed to remove both the inner and outer seal/wiper on the right side door without removing the glass.
The drivers door was much tighter and doesn't appear to have enough space to pull the clips free.
Installation would be more difficult!
Do you normally have to remove the glass to replace the seals?

If so, how do you remove the glass without removing everything (It may have to be done anyway)?
An upholstery guy told me that the windows are hard to align if removed.
When I removed the quarter windows, a bolt snapped, and I haven't been able to get it out yet.  May require drilling?

just replaced mine for the correct ones , take the inners out first, there's enough room
out side ones are shaped like a wiper blade, original inners are flat felts, theres bump stops on glass adjustment , find and undo those to drop glass that little bit extra
thats standard that the bolts holding in quarter windows snaping off  , been in there 45 years , yes drill and re tap threads , has to be exact, to lign up with holes in glass , 
we have all had to do this part ,

Thankyou  --  That is the sequence I used but the drivers side is very tight.  The right side was almost very tight.  Too tight to install.
I will go out and hope I can find those bump stops, that I can adjust.  Are they at the bottom of the glass and is it obvious?  I hope I will recognize it.

Don't worry about fudging up the seals. Topcat offers some excellent reproductions in case your originals are worn out.

Taking out the quarter glass will make removing the seals much easier. Yes, the glass bolts snap easily (dissimilar metals: hardened steel bolts threaded into white pot metal). Be careful drilling them out, the pot metal brackets they are screwed into are very soft and the drill bit may wander. You might want to soak them in penetrating oil for a day or two & use a bolt extractor instead.
Door seals can be removed with the glass in the car. Roll the glass up, the reach up inside the door with a flat blade screwdriver. Feel for the clips, and use the screwdriver to spread the clip tabs slightly. This will make removing the seals easier.
Or... removing the window regulator will allow the glass to drop further down inside the door. It's as easy as 3 bolts, located near the crank handle. There is no adjustment on the door window regulators, so they come out & go back in easy. 3 bolts. With the glass lower, then you can remove the seals from up top.

Broken screw: I have been soaking it in PB Blaster.  about 1/8 inch sticking out but I can't budge it with vice grips or pliers.  I have an extractor someplace but can't find it. Will look harder.

Removing the 3 bolts to lower the window worked great.  I found that I can re-install 1 of the 3 bolts to hold things, with the window down.

The outer seal was still a bear to remove.  We had a fight and it lost.  Good thing I plan on replacing it.  I should have tried harder with the window up.

One more thing: real close to the door window crank, a hole exposes a nut with a slotted-headless screw in it.  What does it do?
