Saw a recent ad for Herb's Parts, correct licensed MOPAR oil filters are coming soon. Looks like both the red/white/blue oil filters and the white/blue hi-perf filters will be available to choose from.  :woohoo:

This is good news to some. These things have been disco'd for quite some time.  :yesnod:

I can see these selling pretty well, that's all some people need to make their car look as it did when it rolled off the line.   :yesnod:

Anybody know who makes the filters ?
Fram ?
WIX ?
I don't really care what the filter looks like externally, but I do CARE LOTS how well it filters Oil.... and from my research they are NOT all equal.
We cut hundreds apart yearly on the Dyno... you might be amazed at what I have seen.

I can't say I know who will be manufacturing the filters however I, and I am certain the others would like to know what you have seen.

Please share!   :popcrn:

You guys think maybe he was being sarcastic by saying that. The filters that were on the car when it rolled off the line are gone and crushed by now. So these cannot be the same ones that came on the car.  :shruggy:

No, the repro ones coming back out were dealership ones.  One being for your typical oil change and the other a Direct Connection (and Hustle Stuff earlier?) over the counter part.

So....what kind of filter was on the car when it rolled off the assembly line?

Anyone have any photos?

Ghoste

Thats it, I called it gold-ish but thats the one.

maxwellwedge

Yes - that's the one - I have a few of them.....too scared to put them on a car though.....

Here are some pics and details....   http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php?topic=88683.25

Right.
Assembly line filters were greenish in color, actually had a textured paint finish. The red, white, blue ones were the dealer replacement.
It would be cool if the repro'd the assembly ones, too. What would it be now, just paint and a decal? Especially if they stamp them with the "M" on top.

I'm really curious to see who the manufacturer is of these filters as well.

I still have a shelf full of K-Mart brand oil filters that were on sale in the late 1980's.   :smilielol:

We used them on my wife's slant six Duster that had 245,000 miles on it when we gave it away for parts. She drove 120 miles each day commuting, so it seemed like I was constantly changing oil & stocked up on them when I could get them on sale. It was still a great running car but it rusted out to where it was too dangerous to drive. I know K-Mart didn't make them, they only had their name on it. I will have to look at the box to see if it says anything else, but they were identical to the Fram filters.

Sorry, but there's no way I would pay $600 for an oil filter, NOS assembly line or not.

I'm going with light olive drab.  Not official olive drab military vehicle color but somewhere in the "drab family" tree.... probably officially known as olive drab version #114 with a little more yellow in it.  :D

Now here's there $64 dollar question.... Did the assembly lines ever install white/red/blue filters?  I'm not sure. :shruggy:

I think in the mid 80's factory filter color changed to black with silver lettering, and the Mopar service replacements changed to silver with black lettering.

What color did the black assembly line filters replace?  Was it the olive drab?  White/red/blue?... or some other color

maxwellwedge

I think the red white blues started showing up around 72-73. Not 100% certain on that....just seem to remember something along those lines.

My thinking as well.  I know the dealerships sold white/red/blue filters for the longest time.  If they were installed at the factory, is there any way to identify a "factory" white/red/blue filter?
